A little past due but here is my fishing report for the last 2 weeks. The first week of June was not up to leech lake standards as many of you who have fished leech know. I really struggled for that time frame with a skunk one morning and few fish the other days. With that being said the fishing did improve.
The second week of June I was having to go to July locations and ditch the jig and minnow. That week (6/11-6/15) rendered many slot fish with a few keepers to feed clients. These fish ranged in depths from 14 to 20ft and were taken on live baits rigs with crawlers. Nothing fancy but a worm and red hook.
This past weekend I opted to go fish the rocks and fishing has been pretty good. There are not the keeper numbers like last year but a few with some nice slots. I went back to a jig and minnow this weekend and although I thought I was done jigging, it proved to be not over yet. We have been averaging 10 to 15 walleyes in a half day trip with only 30% being keepers. The under fish vary from day to day. I will be on the water 10 out of the next 13 days weather permitting and it looks like June will go out better then it came in. I am glad to be jigging again at least for a while. Last year I jigged till just after the 4th of July but will have other bait aboard. I have had the busiest May and June that I can remember and have decent fishing most of the time. There has been an increase in activity and I look for a good summer of walleye fishing.
Other reports are walleyes are hitting just about every presentation used for walleye. Not in great numbers but enough to make for good outings. Fish can be found in the weeds, rocks and shoreline breaks.
