Just got back from a weekend on Leech with the other 3 Fat Germans. Friday was beautiful. On the ice by 6:30 and had a couple hundred perch by 11:00. Kept a couple of meals each and went back to the cabin for BBQ deer sausage and Lienies for lunch. Went back about 2:00 and the ice at the landing had deteriorated a quite bit with the sun and wind. Caught lots more perch and came off about 5:00. This was Brevik landing and some water was moving around the rocks out in front. Also at the landing I had to drive into the cattails to get off. Still fell off the ice and hit the bumper.
Saturday was cold and rainy and after checking the landing we decided to use the ATV and put on from the cabin. 2-4″ of water on the ice. cold wind, rain, and a slower bite pushed us off the lake by noon. Only a few fishermen out and no trucks. We spent the cold afternoon frying fish, playing buck euchre and sipping on a few more Lienies. Not a bad way to end the ice season.
Bottom line is that if the other landings are like Brevik, its ATV at best or walking. That ice around shore changed a lot in the last three days. Call first as they say. My portable is set up in the garage drying out for next year
