My son and I took his pontoon out today and thought we would try for a meal of perch so we got some crappie minnows and headed out to a perch spot. Well after hooking some small perch we drifted to another area and with in a 100 yard stretch of the drift we caught 4 walleyes over 20 inches,,,,on small jigs and CRAPPIE minnows! These fish were spawned out females and hungry. Also had one break off next to the boat as they were inhaling the bait. I think I have a starting spot for the opener. It was tempting to keep fishing the spot but we did not and were unsuccessful in finding sizeable perch but still fun. The opener looks to be promising

I do believe they will be slightly deeper next weekend, but exciting nonetheless

I agree, these fish were less then 8ft and probly near spawning area. However I think the males will be shallow yet and of course that depends on the weather.

Temps were low to mid 40s, with a little wind or clowds the fish will still be shallow (its still spring) but the females may move out but should still be on the feed. Water temps will rise quickly, we are forecast to hit 70 today with little wind and some warm weather for next week as well.

The warmest water I could find this afternoon was 51 deg. With clouds and a chance of rain forcasted every day between now and next friday, I would guess the water will still be pretty cool for crazy dayz(opener).

I dont have a current temp but fancaster mentioed low 50’s. However I dont think air temp got to 50 today and the north wind has been blowing all day so not warming the water much. I wouldnt worroy about it though I think the walleyes will feed regardless.
