    Hey Dave;
    The lake wasn’t real clear, but thats all relative in an IA. lake. According to the local fellow we talked to, the gills were stocked as soon as the deepest part of the lake had enough water to support them. There may have been some adult fish that were reared somewhere else stocked,that is a story I have heard a couple places.

    The local fisherman told us there are also crappie….however,we talked to no one who had caught one,as well as walleye. I will try to talk to the park officer next time I’m down there and get some more details.

    I’ve heard of the lake, but never any reports as to the fishing there prior to yours. Sounds like a worthwhile trip, I only hope the ice holds out long enough to get down there.

    The DNR says there are four ponds there:

    Quote:

    5- Belva Deer Ponds (4): Keokuk county, 5 miles northeast of Sigourny – 10 acres.

    If I headed down there, would it be obvious where to fish? Do they have a ramp, or would one need to take along a BFD to push the boat down to the water’s edge prior to boarding in the summer?

    When they built the lake they just flooded the 4 ponds.They left what fish that was in the ponds in there.

    Gianni;

    There are two boat ramps,labled north and south. I’m sure BFD would help you if he happened to be there at the time We took the four wheeler off the north ramp and headed across the lake to the timber. I’m sure you can follow the tracks to some good areas to start. There is so much flooded timber the fish could be anywhere or everywhere

    Sounds like there might not be any ice left come Friday. I was thinking I might take the day off and fish, too! I’m sure somewhere I can find a spot where I won’t go for a swim.

    Weather is supposed to be crappy; perfect. I doubt I make it clear down there, but the fish around CR had better be on the lookout for me.

    Nope, I had to work
    I wondered about all the runoff clouding the water.
    I would be interested to hear from anyone who was out.
    How about you?
