Have a buddy that retired last May from teaching in Brandon,SD. He bought a house in his childhood town, Wabasha. He is 300 steps from Slippery’s Bar. Anyway, he wants me to come fishing this spring, but doesn’t know what pool is below dam. Was wondering if someone could help me out. Also wondering if anyone can help me as to techniques for fishing below the dam as well as on Lake Pepin. Thanks for you help. he says always cold ones at Slippery’s. Can’t wait.

He is on pool 4. Below Alma dam is pool number 5, if you want to find great places to fish, I would suggest hiring a guide. We spend countless hours working the river on a daily basis to keep clients on fish.

Probably my most favorite place to fish in the midwest. Bass, walleyes, panfish, and big rough fish. There is always something keeping you busy.

That would be pool 4. about 5 miles south of wabasha is the alma dam and below that is pool 5. I spend a fair amount of time down there in late spring and through out the summer and mostly troll. I have done some blade bait fishing, and wingdam fishing (live bait and casting cranks) down there also. Hiring a guide would be a great start to cut down on the learning curve also. There is a few guides that are staff on here that cover that area also.

Just don’t have a heart-attack on your walk home.
