I spent a couple of hours on Saylorville on Saturday evening and much to my suprise, the fish were biting pretty good . I was after the white bass and hybrids but ended up with a mixed bag. I was fishing the Sandpiper area (south of boat ramp) casting jigs and cranks. Couldn’t get the fish to chase a bait so I slowed down my presentation and worked a jig with sassy shad down the drops. I ended up catching 5 wipers, two of those were around 4 lbs., a couple of small whites, one 16″ smallie, one 15″ largemouth, and one 13″ crappie. The fish are very tight to bottom and a light jig is required to slow down the drop, otherwise they don’t seem interested. The water temp is 61. Most of the fish were caught in the 8-15 ft depths. As the water temperature drops the fishing should get better. Hopefully the walleyes will put on the feed bag soon. Hope to see you on the water.
