Well the 2007-08 ice fishing season has come to an end in central Iowa. We started fishing December 7, and the last day I was out was March 23. No thaw in the middle of winter this year either, providing us with one of the longer ice seasons I can remember. I had a lot of success early, and mid season was still pretty strong. Actually the last few times I was out were the slowest, I dont have an answer as to why?
I spend most of the winter on Brushy Creek or Clear Lake. The pictures following are from Brushy, Pine Lake, and one from a farm pond near town. The 24 inch walleye was caught and released on Brushy, suspended at 20 in 38fow. The largemouth was 21 inches and caught out of North Prairie Lake while trout fishing. The bluegills and crappies were out of Brushy, and the picture in my basement was a pair of 14 inch crappies from a farm pond.
It was a good season, now the ice is almost out, and Im ready to start on the spring crappies and walleyes.
