One of my buddies said there was an article in Iowa Game and fish about winter bass fishing in Cedar Lake. Where is this lake? It is supposed to be a power plant lake, I know there is a nuke plant by Palo, but I dont think the discharge goes back into the lake. Thanks.

Dr. J, How goes it dude. Cedar Lake is that polluted little pond used as a warm water discharge in downtown Cedar Rapids. It’s open water all year except when we have extended stretches of below zero weather. It has some hawg large jaws in it. I’ve caught many over 5lbs, big of 7lbs there. It’s a fun little place to get the kinks out of your line and tangle with a hog or two but it’s not really worth a 2 hour drive unless you are jonesing really bad. If you get up this way drop me a PM. Take care.

What do you Iowa guys know about the Muskies in there?

I think you are thinking of Clear Lake. Don’t know much about the muskie pop in Clear Lake but I do know that quite a few get caught every year.

Mr. Neff- not bad here. I am jonesing. Can you put a boat in there? Is that the lake right off of 380 as you go through town? Maybe Ill stick to powerton, about the same distance and I dont really have a desire to get near that mud hole if its the one im thinking.

I think Cedar Lake is a superfund site so I wouldn’t eat anything that comes out of there. FYI

JJ, Yep that’s the one, the little mudhole west of 380. I’ve only fished it from shore but I’ve seen people with 2 man boats on it. Not sure if they carry in or there is a ramp. If you need a passenger for your powerton trip let me know.

No ramp there. If you’ve got a small boat just pull it off the trailer and slide it in into the east side that goes back twards the inflow of the power plant. I also know theres some good bass there and like said befor don’t eat them and it is in the reclemation fund for clean up. Supposedly along time ago when they were spraying for termits up by daniels park one of the contractors supposedly buried a partial barrel of chloridane after he sprayed, they figure its rusting now and letting go of its contents, very toxic stuff and only pro pest control people can buy it now.

They stopped allowing any boats on it. Not even a canoe. They don’t want the mud getting stirred up because if high amounts of mercury in the water.
