Tony Pagliai and I had a chance to hit the Iowa river recently, the fish was a little slower than usual, but we did have a good time in the boat. We were using 1/16 -1/8 ounce bft Jigs, with chartreuse pepper bft ringworms. These fish were biting extremely light, and keeping your jig in their face as long as possible was a must. We were fishing anywhere from 8-20 fow, with current close by. The current didn’t seem to hold any fish, but the dead water did hold some fish. There used to be a good number of saugeye in the Iowa, but the numbers are definitely not there like they used to be. We used to get into the saugeyes in the 5-7 lbs range pretty consistently, but the bigger of the two fish in the picture was the biggest saugeye we could get to take our baits… Next time!!
As you can see from the picture, we got dumped on when we were fishing, that picture was taken 30 minutes after the boat had been back in my heated shop…
It was good getting back on the water with you Tony!
