Well, the Iowa is finally down to near normal level. I fished burlington street tonight and got a nice 21″ eye, one big whitey, and about a 15lb channel cat on a crank bait. I missed several hits that I know were walleyes. They all just popped it on the drop and I’d miss and have a pulled down twister. berkley power bait in brown/orange and brown/chartreuse was all I got walleye bites on. Tried crawlers and all I got was one medium sized cat. The good news is the 7 month flood didn’t drain all the fish out! I hope to see some reports from the Iowa finally as it is now fishable.

We have been fishing the Iowa a little ways upstream from you. Weve been picking up quite a few eyes. The first night we got back to back nice fish, a 25 and then a 23. Most fish have been in the 13-17 range though. We started out throwing jigs, but we havent been able to get bit on anything but nightcrawlers. 1/16oz jig with a half crawler to be exact. I ordered some of the BFT draggin jigs from Dean, I think they might work out good for our shallow stretch of the Iowa.

I talked to a guy below Burlington Street who said he saw a 34″ muskie caught there earlier this week. He insisted it was a muskie, not a Northern. I have caught a few Northern out of the Iowa, but never would expect a ‘skie. I suppose one of Macbride’s few muskie could have ended up in Iowa City–stranger things have happened…
