Any one Know if there is any water left in Pool A or B? Last I heard it was WAY down and very weedy. Would like to meet a friend there this saturday if it is doable by boat. Plan to target Bass & Pike. Thanks in advance for any info if you know.

Was there last weekend and it was extremely weedy and had a hard time trying to get around. Will need to use something weedless if you can get to the spot!

Martens always has water in it but is full of milfoil. It is thick until about the end of september. It is a pain in the butt early duck season if you don’t know where you are going out there with the outboard.

I haven’t been out there this year. Always to weedy to do any casting. Milfoil is getting way out of hand in there. DNR trys to control it, but it just is a never ending battle in it. Plus it is so shallow all over and the water really heats up this time of year. If you go, make sure you clean your boat and trailer to stop transporting milfoil

In all honesty I like that it is weedy because it keeps the fisherman out of there in the fall when we are duck hunting. Nothing worse than someone fishing that doesn’t respect duck hunters that have been out there forever trying to hunt and they come 50 yards from you casting lures and then run half throttle almost through your decoys when they could have avoided them completley.

honda75, one of these days it might not be so great for duck hunting. They have been talking about draining Martins so they can dig it out and have a nice fishing lake for the fisherman I for one hope they do They have already had some meetings about it

Actually they have tryed to drain in the last 3 years but the US fish and wildlife won’t let them because of the nice sized fish in martens. If they drain it. It will end up like the south side of sweets where all the dumb walk in hunters who sky bust all day long will be able to walk out and set up 20 yards behind all the duck hunters who are in boats. I really like martens and shoot ten fold the ducks people do on the south side and the old refuge. Martens is a challenge to hunt and the real duck hunters have success on that side.

The proposal was to fill the south end and then go in and shock martens. Thens transfer the fish over to the south lake. Dig out Martens and put in structure, fill it back up with water. Then go and shock the fish to transfer them back

And I hope they don’t because it will just ruin the duck hunting on martens with all the annoying fisherman out there in the fall and will make it to deep to wade out and put decoys in. That is why I make it to all the Iowa waterfowl summits every summer that go on and agree with all the other waterfowlers about it.

I understand your point of view as a waterfowler and I am sure you understand my point of view as a fisherman. I used to duck hunt when I was 14 years old out there and hunted it for 20 years. I agree, it is a great duck hunting area. Shot many of ducks out of there by wading out to the little potholes in the cattails. But I no longer waterfowl hunt, just FISH Alot of Tripoli boys grew up out there
