Anyone that wants to wet a line and dosen’t care much what they may catch should go to Elkader on the turkey river in n.e. Iowa. The suckers are in there by the hundreds and its one after another with doubles often. My future son in law and I had some time to kill so we went sucker fishing. We bought a dozen nightcrawlers and got 48 suckers in about 4 hrs. The waters clear enough to see 3′ down and its one sucker after another. Anyone making cut bait for catfish later this spring or summer now is the time to go. Elkader had its annual sucker, redhorse and carp contest saturday and the big sucker and money went to a 4.6 pounder. Carp was 17 pounds and redhorse was 3.5. If your not catching much because of high water or just looking for something to tug on the other end of your line head to the Turkey river right in Elkader and park by the stone arch bridge and just walk down the steps. Bring a lawn chair and some crawlers and enjoy yourself. Also a guy got a 10 lb brown trout below the dam 2 weeks ago there too plus theres been several smaller trout caught there since the thaw this spring.
Not catching any fish?
