I am currently working in the Des Moines are looking for areas to fish I have fished Saylorville with little success looking for some basic info I only manage to make it fishing after work and rain days Any info would be greatly appreciated Ps fishing from Shore 
Try Big Creek. It is just north of Saylorville Lake. Go to Polk City and turn west at the town square. There are many rock jetties on the lake and at times can offer good fishing from shore. Buzzbaits and spinner baits work well when the fish are active and agressive. A Carolina rigged 6″ worm is also productive at times. How long will you be working in Des Moines? Maybe I can take you up on the lake some evening and you can see/fish the lake from the water.
