Well, I actually started to believe that with the muddy flood we have in iowa city that the eyes couldn’t even see my offerings. I was gladly proven wrong last night after work. Twgohawks and I managed 8 nice eyes and 10 nice whities in a little slack water area we found. The water is dirty as heck so brown/chartreuse and brown/orange were good colors. I was using an 1/8oz BFT jig w/ 3″ power bait in the colors I mentioned. The fish that found the bait in front of them absolutely slammed the jigs. It’s been raining all day but the water can get any dirtier so I’ll be back at it tonight. Right now w/ the raging current look to any cuts in the bank line that offer a big eddy w/ slack water near shore. Some of our fish were right in the brush along shore. The males were milking but we also got a couple nice females that were still fat. I lost a hog female as well (of course!). Better go get after em before it’s too late.

Nice report Andy. Interesting on the brown and orange, that’s a killer sauger combo on P4. I wouldn’t have thought to try it in the brown mess in the Iowa right now. Good to hear you got out and had success. I had a busy weekend last with volunteer tech support of a community event so I was only able to get out for 2 hours Sunday evening with my 5 year old daughter and my 9 year old nephew. We got into some nice Crappie(most 9-10 inchers but one mongo mamma at 14 plus) on the North arm of MacBride in a location we had ice fished and had some luck. Lots of options this time of year, early Crappie bite and prespawn Walters sometimes can be a tough decision when you only get 2-4 hours and 1 trip per week so your updates and others help. Good luck tonight.

Iowa river in Iowa City. What more do you need to know? It’s all chocolate milk.

There should be more current breaks on the Iowa below Coralville res. very soon–the COE is dropping the flow at the Coralville tube pretty quickly.

The March bite on the Iowa below the res. was a bust due to high water. However, I am thinking the April and May action will be pretty good, as the extended heavy flow should have spurred a lot of fish movement.

We got six more tonight and a ton of white bass. The funny thing is that straight brown was the best color. Very weird with the very brown water and a brown twister being the best bait. i know of several big slack water spots with a foot to 5 foot of water that should all be good right now. I think we’ll get the boat out there this weekend.

VF, for the most part I’d agree the March Iowa River bite sucked. But there was one day for sure that it was gangbusters, just prior to the full floodgates opening. It was definitely a timing situation. And sounds like things are straightening out again so now may be the time to hit it again. It’s a much quicker drive for me than Dubuque, Gut, Prairie or P4. Funny observation on the brown on brown color situating Andy, but lots of times when that occurs I don’t question it, just take it for what it is document and repeat. Good luck guys.
