Our club fished Lake MacBride May 18, 2003. We are a multi-species club, and weighed in 2 of the six species that we peruse.
29 members participated. In 17 boats
1. 3 Bass were weighed in totaling 9.46 pounds. Largest Bass was a nice 4.06# fish caught by Bob Knight.
2. 176 Crappies for 56.05 pounds. Largest crappie was a 1.06# fish caught by Mark Harrison.
Many more crappies were caught, but we have a self imposed limit of 15 per person with a minimum length of 8 inches.
NO WAKE rules were strictly observed by all participants. We did notice this was not the case of many of the local pontoon boats located on the lake!
It was a beautiful morning and day with lots of sunshine and temperatures in the 70’s. The water at MacBride was clear in most areas with a little turbidity near some shore lines cause by the wind. Surface water temperature mid-morning was 63.4 degrees.
The crappies were caught using small tube jigs, twister tails (Chartreuse), minnows, and various combinations of same. They were near shore and limits were taken in 2 to 4 foot of water.
No white Bass, Northern, Walleye or Catfish were captured.
The next Hawkeye Hooksetter Tournament will be on Coralville June 7th.
