Yesterday was the first tournament that I had ever been in and needless to say the first for my six year old. The event was held at Three Mile Lake in Union County and put on by the Iowa Bass Anglers. The event was first class in my opinion and I will be putting in for next years event as soon as possible.
My son and I brought in five bass over 4 1/2 hours of which only two were keepers. All were caught in the timber on a Rapala DT-10 that was craw colored. I thought we would definitely be out of the hunt with only two fish, but was pleasantly surprised to find that many teams had come in with only one or no fish. Apparently the fishing was tough all over the lake. For our age group (5-9) we placed third with 5.33 lbs. The winner weighed in at 6.77. If one of our non-keepers had been a half an inch longer he would have been legal and I believe that would have been enough for us to win. The overall best team of the day amongst the three age brackets brought in a limit of four fish that weighed in at over fifteen pounds! At any rate, it was a good time and I heard one team even caught a 50″ musky on carolina rigged senko. You never know what may come out of Three Mile Lake.
