Anyone having any luck at Little River, 3 Mile, Green Valley or West Lake lately? Some buddies and I are heading down friday for our annual mother’s day weekend fishing trip. Any tips would be appreciated. We are looking for the big crappies. Thanks

3 mile is 7′ lower than it was in Sept. West Lake is so low, Gary Sobatka (DNR) isn’t allowing tournaments, he says its too low to launch, canceling. Little river is low, but not near as bad as the top 2, bass report was slow, no crappie report.
I was down at Red Rock this past weekend, (horses) not much fishing. I visited with 2 older fellers catching some big crappies off that old iron bridge to the west of hwy 14 heading North from Elk Rock camp….up to 18 inchers, I BS you not. There were 300 people below the dam fishing for white bass… too many different walks of life for me, elbow to elbow.
I don’t have much Crappie knowledge, just trying to pass on the lake levels before you make the trek.

Okay, here is a short report on how we did. We had 2 boats and fished Green Valley friday evening. We probably caught around 30 crappies and gills. A few of the gills were niced sized and the crappies were average at best (maybe a few pushing 9 inches). Saturday morning we started out at West Lake in Oseola. If you want to catch dink crappies all day long, go there. It was a crappie on every cast but I don’t think any of them would have made 7 inches. We just fished from shore for about 45 minutes and left for Little River. Little River was decent, we caught some nicer crappies a few gills and a few walleyes. Nothing spectacular but a few for the frying pan anyway. We left there and one boat went to a small recreational area with a 40 area lake/pond and did great for big bluegills and 8-10 nicer crappies. My boat went to 3 Mile. It is low, but not a problem launching the boat. Crappie bite was very slow until about 7:30 ish. From 7:30 to dark we caught a decent mess (12-16) keeper sized crappies. All in all, we froze and worked or tails of to get a nice meal of fish for the guys that wanted to take some home. We didn’t catch any big crappies (12+ inches). Lots of people fishing and of all we talked to, it seemed our group did the best of anyone. Talked to a guy and his kid when we were lauching onto 3 Mile. They had been out all day and only caught 2 crappies. This weeks warmer weather may really turn the panfishing on. All the locals told us the fishing has sucked so far this year and blamed it all on the weather. On a side note, we checked out 12 Mile and they really did a nice job with the renovation. Lots of brush piles, fishing jetties, rock shorelines and rock piles added. This lake is going to be great in 4-5 years!!! Heading to SE Iowa this weekend to see if our luck can change.
