Is there a horsepower restriction on McBride? It’s been awhile since I’ve been on the lake. What night of the week?

Yes, there is a motor restriction May 20th til week after Labor day. I’ll post more details when I get home from work.

Uhhh… Why MacBride?
Just curious. I’ve been thinking about trying to start something like this as well, but jump around within, say, 1/2 hour of CR/IC.
I would be interested in joining in, regardless. Just have to see how it works with the weekday schedule.

Because of the BIG BASS!!…and they are not easy to catch…so it will be challenging-

Palo…what else..?
I might be interested in this, but my schedule usually prevents it. Please keep me posted of dates/times and Ill see if I can swing it.
Nope, No Doctor’s allowed…I know too many of them that are great fishermen…
Just kidding, about not being allowed-
I’ll keep you up to date JJ-
Did you ever find anything out about that sports shop..?
Granted, Coralville Sux, but there are a few fish in there.
In general, when I’m after bass, I’d fish the Cedar nine times out of ten over MacBride. I’ve also had a pretty good time fishing some of the smaller lakes around IC. There’s nothing I despise more than putzing along with my Al Gore Enviro-motor and having the front end of the boat get swamped by someone in a 620 running their 9.9 kicker full throttle tossing four footers my way.
If we’re on MacBride, I’m stuck fishing within about 300 yards of the ramp, or wasting an hour of my time making a ‘run’ with the electric motor. Is there a weigh-in time? If I’m stuck on the South arm and a 20mph wind comes up, do I get an extension?

I am a little to worried about the cedar, to put my good boat in there- I would fish it with my jonboat…
Smaller lakes around IC- how are we going to have a tournament on one of those, with bass boats…?
I wasn’t even aware of any except Kent park (which has the trolling motor only restriction) that even have a boat ramp….
I don’t know about the extension and such- I would let you fish out of my boat…I guess the rules are up to Darrin, or whoever organizes the events..
I don’t mean to sound down on the whole thing. I have been wishing someone would put something like this together for a while, but haven’t had the time or ambition to take care of it myself.
The one thing that I always have in the back of my head is that MacBride is (at most) 5 miles from my house, and I still only fish it a max of 3-4 times per year during open water, mostly because of the motor restriction. I would have a real problem being limited to fishing a third of the lake near the takeoff point if that was a deciding factor in the fishing (and it is almost guaranteed to be at some point). In general, I don’t mind at all losing to someone who outfishes me, but I would have a real problem losing to a 9.9hp motor every week.
Even though the numbers might not be as good on the river or the res, I wouldn’t underestimate their big fish potential. As of right now, the biggest walleye I’ve caught has come from the res, while the biggest I’ve pulled from Macbride didn’t top 10 inches.
Speaking of which, any chance this could be a multi-species league?
I appreciate the ideas and concerns I’m trying to iron out some details as we speak. I started this deal a little late, so bare with me.
I’m thinking we shuffle between McBride and Palo.(Not many options in the CR area?) Fish McBride when there is not a motor restriction, we could get in 2 to 3 on McBride and then hit Palo for 3.
I’m totally open to suggestions!

HH, I have posted on Iowa Outdoors about holding weekday tourneys and having one on May 3 at Mcbride. You stated day time tourneys might not work for many and I was wondering what time frame might be more convient? At this time I have 5-10 people who says that they will be fishing the 7am-2pm tourney. I am trying to get an idea on number of fisherman so I can get ahold of Paul Sleeper for the permit. As for Coralville bass my Dad and I won the Hawkeye Hooksetters tourney there on the 22nd with our limit of bass at 15.50#s. They’re there you just have to fish hard. Bear Creek is having an open tourney on the res May 13. Last year 1 fish took first place. $1800 to the winners. Well organized tourney and good people. Cedar river out of CR can be a good bite. Hooksetters has held many there and good fish have been caught but its more of a summer bite. As for Palo I was thinking of holding a paper tourney where you split up the teams and measure/weigh fish that are 15″ and of course bring in fish over 18″. You will still be a team and at end of tourney you add your measurements/weights combined w/partner and this determines winner. Like you said still working out details. Thanx, R.D.
I stated that day tourney’s wouldn’t work for me, I work days. I saw your flyer at Gander and it looks great!
Is a permit required with that small number of boats?

HH, I called down to Mcbride DNR station and they said it would be best that way we can cull our fish if needed which as a registered bass tourney we are exempt from state cull law. I sent it in Tuesday and will either pick it up Thurs. or Fri. Let everyone know its a go!! Thanx, R.D.
Sorry Guy’s, I’ve pretty much dropped the ball on getting this going I’m now thinking a little late summer to late fall series for this season…maybe a night tourny at Palo
I’ll keep ya posted, again I appologize…
