Fishing is pretty good. Lake is clear which is different for this lake . The grass has really cleaned this lake up . We have a club bass tourny this Sunday it will have 12-16 boats so I cant give you a detailed report. But crappie are biting and a few walleyes in the weeds. Jigs and tails over the grass will take wallies and crappies. Minnies under bobbers will catch some also. I will be in a white Stratos 2000 Ex-Treme with 225 Johnson and fishing towards the back of the lake . Say hey if you see me.

Fished the lake friday afternoon for about 3 hours. 4 guys to boats. We caugt some nice gills and crappies and quite a few short walleyes. The bite overall was good but not great. The DNR ponds around the lake were fantastic, many, many nice bluegills.

sounds incouraging, we have 4 boats going there friday. they are in pursuit of the mighty gill. your post is the first time i ever heard mention of dnr ponds around the lake. are they public, i would rather have gone back to rathbun but they can’t catch gills at rathbun. are the gills and crappies done spawning at sugema? usually we have to fish 8 to 10 feet to find the gills. never have hit the spawn there. looks like the weather is going to agree with us once, just sunny and cool……………. were you using worms or waxies. i think we use the garden type wormies for the gills anyways.

As of last weekend, neither the gills or the crappies were spawned out at the lake. The dnr ponds i believe were silt ponds built before Sugema and yes they are public. We did pretty good from shore but there is quite a bit of moss around the edges. We had 3 small 10 ft boats that we carried to one of the ponds (i would guess it is about 10 acres) and used an electric motor and slow trolled with a 1/16 head 1 1/2″ twister tail and tipped it with a waxie. I have no idea how many we caught and we release 90% of them but I would say we would have filled several coolers of gills if we were game hogs. There is another dnr pond that is about a 1/2 mile walk from the road. It is only about 3/4 acre and we didn’t catch a lot of fish there but we did manage 15-20 over 9 inches. I would have a hard time explaining how to get to the small pond, but I can explain the other one real easy. There are several more small dnr ponds around the lake too. If you want to know how to get to it, PM me. I would be glad to help. Also, on Seguma, I have my best luck slow trolling just like mentioned above. I know this lake pretty well. If you are interested in gills, don’t be afraid to drive around on the gravel roads and stop and ask the farmers in you can fish their ponds, most of them are more than happy to let you panfish. Over the last 6 years, I have fished more than 20 private ponds and have only been told no once or twice.

We caught some nice gill on Sunday. We were using crawlers on long shank hooks with no weight under a pencil type bobber. The crawler would sink real slow and the bobber would lay flat until the hit. We were fishing tree tops in 12-15 ft of water and would flip to them till we caught one and then stayed there because they are grouped up . Leader length was 3-4ft, kinda awkward till you got the hang of it . It was effective and fun after a weeknd of bassin. Also caught some crappies on pool 19 that had not spawned yet on Monday.

I was back down there on Sunday and Monday. We didn’t fish Seguma. We fished Lake Lacey. We did pretty good on Sunday, especially during the rain, but Monday was a bust. Didn’t have a big numbers day, but the size was very good. Caught numerous gills over 8″ and a few over 9″, a hanfull of 10-11″ Redears and a fixed assortment of crappies. Had to fish deeper as the small gills were shallow and you couldn’t keep your bait away from them. It was nice Sunday as we were the only boat out there. I think the rain in the late morning kept everyone away.
