Drove down from the Twin Cities on Friday, at least a 35 mph wind the whole way. Hit 3-Mile lake about 6:00 pm. Fished the point straight across from the access, I had a low 40″ class fish boatside within the first 10 minutes on a 6″ black and orange phantom. We decided we would try another spot and my motor totally took a dump. Now reduced to electric, and a motor that topped out at sputtering idle we struggled the rest of the weekend to catch fish. We found refuge from the wind back in the first bay north of the access, way back, tons of small crappies, gils, and redears… never caught one before but I think thats what it was. The whole time the wind never let up, ever. They had a bass tourney Saturday morning, I think only half the boats had something to weigh. Everyone complained about the wind. Cool lake otherwise, will definitely have it on my list for next spring. By the way, the guy who runs the baitshop in Afton was awesome, great tips and insights as to where to start. And all we were there to buy was licenses.
What is up with the wind in Iowa
