It was nice to meet you at the store that day, I know you met a lot of people that day, but it was nice to meet a fellow member.

    Hiya Ryan,

Dont stop posting fishing reports!!! I read them all… maybe only 1 in 100 will bother to post a response (I’m guilty), but 99 of them enjoy and learn from it…

On another front, I am enjoying the ultralite reel you helped me pick out. You put the Berkley casting mono on for free and I had forgotten what using casting mono was like. It drove me nuts.. I have fished twice at night with it and I cant feel half of what I can with Fireline. So, I love the reel, but I just picked up some 6lb Fireline (which I think is the lightest they make?) and will respool tonight!

    Thanks man…

Dave sorry about the 6# XL,thought it would be a good choice for you.Nothing wrong with that 6# Fireline either,it is great line.
Let me know what you think of the Avocet reel and be honest please.I think they are the best reel for the $ anywhere.
Thanks for support on my fishing reports. As always it is nice to hear feedback from you guys(members).I’m glad you enjoy them Dave.
How is little Gus doing?Tell him hello from that Ryan guy please. It is so nice as a father your getting that boy out and spending quality time on the water with him.He will never forget it.

    Hi Ryan,

Dont be sorry, the Berkley XL was a good choice for what you had. I had gotten so use to using Fireline I forgot what mono felt like (especially mono with some stretch). I only use mono on Gus’ closed face real, in which case I do indeed use Berkley XL.

Now that I have Fireline back on the ultralight, I can say that I really do like the reel. I have gone to doing quite a bit of dusk/night fishing after the kids go to bed so sensitivity is a serious issue. With the high modulus graphite rod and the 6lb Fireline you feel absolutely everything: every rock, every weed, every tap and pickup. In the dark, it makes a huge difference.

I caught a couple of nice bass last night with it and have had no problems (other then I forgot to set the drag for the first time and had to monkey with it while the fish was on )

Scheels is now selling that same Avocet reel in combo with a Scheels rod for the same $29.95. It’s not a rod I would use, so I probably would have just given it away anyway, but if someone is looking for a combo, that’s an option.

I’ll tell Gus you said hello!

    Catch ya later,

    Dave
