Well I made it out twice this past week.First went down to PC to try for some muskie and walleye.I picked up about 5.5 lb eye(on a muskie crank) and perch. Two gentlemen in another boat useing me as their marker caught about a 10 lb blue cat. They were nice enough to ask if I wanted it(my gramps loves cats, so I got a lesson in cleaning catfish,he can’t do it anymore.)All in all a good trip.
The next day checked out the Ceder for some flatheads,it’s been awhile since last time.I took my mother along for a relaxing trip, but not much going, only small channels and smallies. We put in at Riverfront park in Wloo and went up.
Lots of small smallies being caught.
Oh ya I have a 16′ tan lund if you see me on PC, I had my eyes open for some of you guys but not many boats were out.
Anyways the water is down so GOOD FISHING.

??? It is my belief that there are only blues on the soutern most reaches of the Missouri and maybe the southern most reaches of the Mississippi bordering Iowa? A new Iowa state record 101 pounds blue cat appears to have been caught on a bank line on the Missouri River in Iowa though? It is easy to mistake a large male channel for a blue cat. Omaha news

Blues are all over iowa. I have personally caught them in the Cedar, wapsi, and Iowa rivers. Yep plenty of channels but there is no mistaking them. They are as different as pearch and bluegills.

After getting skunked on the Miss this past Saturday , my buddy Ron and I thought we’d try some cattin’ on the Cedar, out our back door just below Mount Vernon early this morning. We put in at the South Cedar Natural Area at dawn and fished til lunchtime with stinkbaits. One dink channel cat was all we could do.

There were plenty of bank poles set in this stretch; someone was evidentally workin’ it hard for the whiskered critters. One of the bush-bobs right near the ramp was maxed out; doing a lively two-step. We just had to have a look. Hooked on fast was what looked like a 20# flattie. I bet that old dude was pretty happy when he checked his lines later in the morning…

    Regards,

    Joe
