Fished this lake with the assistance of various guides over 4 days. ZERO perch over 10″. Did have one late afternoon of walleye fishing that was awesome! Caught 20 or more in two hours. All were 12-16″. Did have a 23″ male earlier that day that I intend to eat. Caught a couple of snakes in the 29-32″ class while jig fishing for walleyes. The larger of those two snakes still swims. A “very” short, subtle jigging motion with a 3-5 second pause provoked the strikes best…however, my routine is to jig the spoon 3-5′ off the bottom every 10 seconds and jig it back down to really get their attention and draw them into view on the Vexilar. Once a fish is spotted, I do the subtle jigging routine and it is deadly. BTW, that last snake came 6′ off the bottom after my jig in 19 FOW and hit it at 3′ off the bottom. My best lure by far was a 1/4OZ Scenic Tackle “Angel Eye” in Pink/White or Pink/Glow. It out-produced anything by guides or other fishermen near me.
Lake travel is EX with any type of 4×4. Landings are EX and ice thickness is 36-40″ estimated. A Laser without an extension “just” makes it through anywhere we cut holes and we cut a bunch. Water clarity is 10’+ in most sections that we fished.
IMHO, the good perch bite is still another 7+ days away judging by the LR weather.
