Made it out on Monday the 10th. We had pretty good action in the morning for walleyes. We were fishing in 17 and 19 feet and it didn’t seem to matter which depth we were fishing in. Some of the walleyes that bit were very aggresive and inhaled the bait. While other seemed to barely get the lure in their mouth. Sometimes there was only a dead weight on the other end of the line to tell us there was a fish on. All the fish came with a jigging spoon and a minnow head, set lines didn’t produce any fish.
In the afternoon we headed out to search for some perch. Reports have been pretty poor and we found those to be pretty much true. We only iced one jumbo perch just shy of a pound. The Trap Attack was out to Devil’s this past weekend and it sounded like a few of the teams found some perch. but many of the reports sounded like 6 perch in a day was a good day.
In the evening we headed back to fish for more walleyes. The action was just as good if not better than the morning. We finished out our limits by about 4:30 and headed for home. I wish we would have fished longer cause the action was really starting to pick up but it had already been a long day and we had an hour and a half drive back to Grand Forks.
The fish that we caught came on buckshot rattle jigs, weasels and sonars tipped with a minnow head. The best colors seemed to be glow in the dark and silver. There was at least 15 inches of ice everywhere we drove and less than 6 inches of snow. Also there were roads plowed to the more popular spots.
Hopefully the walleye fishing remains good the the perch action picks up.
