Their website has said “out of stock” for months and their email bounces. Anybody know if they are still around or not? I think I remember somebody here who said they were going to try to stock them somewhere but I don’t really remember. Was that you Brian Klawitter?

Great for Eggrolls, shrimp, onion rings, dummies and cheese curds too… I’ve tossed lots of stuff in there and it all turns out fantastic.

I’ve never used one or seen one in action so what makes it so great?

    Hey Bob!

Reef, which site are you going to?

If Reeds has them you should be good.

Ps it boils water too so hard boiled/poached eggs come out great for breakfast!

Oh and Spam fries (low sodium of course)

You’ll have to call Reeds. Web says out of stock.

It would be interesting to hear what happened to the company.

    Breaking News!

I just spoke with the owner, Mike Meyers and they will be in stock within the next two weeks. We’ll see them in stock on the above website first, then being shipped to other retailers.

They are awesome, very little oil usage, easy clean-up. Had to have 1 for home and another for cabin. Got mine online from Runnings.

That is good news! Been thinking of doubling my output for larger gatherings with a second unit.

First or second use someone commented- you could kill a case of beer with that thing. That was a lot of cases ago..

Love our Frying Saucer, one of the best spontaneous Northwest Sportshow purchases ever. Probably use it next weekend!

Okay I’m lost here. Isn’t the whole point of the Flying Saucer to have very little oil usage and it’s just for a small fry job here and there?

If you actually had a use for more output wouldn’t you just use a deep fryer? Or a larger cast iron pan? What would be the point of this giant saucer thing? Thanks for the help guys.

Joe, they seem crazy to me too. Too small.

Do not own one yet, neighbors do, we use it outside or in the garage, very little oil use. when fish are done you lift out and lay on the ring around the pot, oil drains off the fish and rolls back down to the pot, fish stays hot, they really are nice for frying fish for a group

    Joe, Shefland is on target.

    BUT THERES MORE! LOL!

If your camping without power the 1 pound LP tanks make them very portable. For a shore lunch, they are perfect. Small size that takes less room then a box fan without decals. Light weight. Using two of them still uses less oil then the regular deep fryer. Much easier to control the heat with the gas valve the a cast iron pas over a fire.

Yes, each batch is smaller, but the whole process is faster with the Frying saucer – easy set-up, oil is hot within a couple of minutes and each batch takes about 3-4 minutes. Then you take it out and set it on the sides where it stays hot and the excess oil drains back into the center where the next batch is already well on its way to being done.

If you’re cooking fish for a large group and it’s going to be sit-down meal, maybe a bigger deep fryer is the way to go. But nothing beats standing around the saucer with a few buddies and some cold ones and eating the crispy fillets as they cook. it becomes the centerpiece for the meal and conversation. Set up a few small bowls of tartar sauce, hot sauce, etc – Dip, eat, drink repeat. Like a big fondu for outdoor folk! jester

I’ve used a digital thermometer to ensure the oil is the right temp when starting out along with recovering after each batch.

Is there a mechanism for draining the oil or is it as messy as it looks?

    They look tiny.
I have plenty of ways to do small batches, but i never cook small batches.

I just upgraded to a big pot powered by 54,000 btu’s for fish frys. I used to cook for an hour using various burners/stoves, etc.. Now i cook for 15 minutes and everyone eats!! Very easy to maintain temp which results in an excellent cook!

I don’t know about others but I just tip it into the fire pit. Then it’s 4 or 5 full size paper towels. Clean, dry and ready to go into it’s carrying bag.

Yup, ditto to what Klawitter says! You can save oil but we use the thing only a few times a year at the cabin so in the firepit it goes and then just a good wipe-down (with paper towels that also go into the fire pit). No need to bring soap and water into this. A little grease coating is good for it – just like cast iron.

I normally just use my deep fryer. Plug it in and I can do a couple large batches in less than 10 minutes.

I am intrigued though for a small batch. Let’s say a couple people on a Shore lunch? I could see this being convenient.

If anybody has one they are looking to sell I would be interested. It’d be a nice option just to have in the truck for a midday Shore lunch.

    Thanks

I always recommend the wind ring that sold for $20. And now it comes with one.

I “think” free shipping is new as well.
