Anyone else having issues with CLAM shelters.I’m really starting to question their ability to make quality product.

I purchased a CLAM Nanook Thermal last year and have had issue after issue with it. While on the ice this past Saturday I had a zipper break and a pole snap while I was packing up. The poles are so fragile its not even funny. I feel like everyone of my poles is bent. I just think they are cheaply made.

I went through 4 clam hub houses before I finally said enough with them all together. Broken poles, zippers breaking, pulls on zippers breaking off, etc… I still have the last one I got from them on warranty new in the box. Not sure what I’ll do with it yet. Look at the reviews on their gloves, almost everybody returns a 2 pairs under warranty before they give up and buy something else.

Seems to be a trend from what I’ve been seeing and reading. I’m sure there are people out there who have had a great experience with Clam products but you do hear quite a bit about different items.

I had one of their command post hubs, issues from the start including a zipper breaking off, pin holes everywhere, tearing of the fabric. When I bought a new one last winter, I went with Clam again only because I got a smoking deal on a bigfoot 2000 ($100 off new). I will say it’s much better made, much stronger anchoring points on the outside of the hubs, better zippers, very few pin holes. But this weekend I had one of the thinner poles pop out of the fabric. My wife was generous enough to sew it back in. I’ll be looking at Eskimo or Otter next time.

I also tried their quick strike rigs. The first pike I had on, the piece that holds the hook on broke…. so now I stick with Northland. I’ve read about issues with their spring bobbers, the first run of the plate gearbox, etc. I hope that Clam addresses each customer’s issue and listens to what the fisherman are saying. Hopefully they do right by the OP and fix your issues quickly so you’re able to use it this season.

I still use my old Clam Fish Trap that must be at least 20 years old. I guess they just don’t make ’em like they used to.

I put a lot of stock in reviews I read on products which led to me buying an Eskimo 949I about four years ago. I look for consistancies in the reviews and one that jumped out on the Clam so was zippers breaking, it seemed like the we’re breaking at an alarming 90%!

Clam products aren’t even on my radar. Customer service is irrelevant if the product is junk.

the question is why are you still considering clam!? they used to rule the roost 30 years ago but have failed to keep up with the improvements in the industry and haven’t made a quality product in quite a while IMHO.

Bought a Clam Kenai last year. My idiot self let it blow away when I was chasing a tipup and burned a hole in it. Called Clam and I paid for a new canvas…it had little micro holes in it everywhere…Called them and they said there was nothing they could do. After 5 short uses, I now have leaking issues on the roof from the holes expanding…called again and they AGAIN said there was nothing they can do, but I could purchase ANOTHER canvas. NEVER AGAIN TO CLAM.

The hyfax runner kit I have for it is a joke to say the least and the $60 cover i bought didn’t fit over the tub on the back, just the poles…so it fills with snow when towing.

The pre-2010 Clam products were decent and the 20 year old clams are awesome.

I have a Clam Voyager TCX, bought in December 2013 and I have had zero problems with it. Everything works fine on it, poles, zippers, base, etc. The fabric has no holes, but I can notice a few spots where it appears to be thinning a bit as the light comes through it.

I bought an Otter hub not to long ago and used it a couple times. Haven’t had any issues with it and it seems to be very well made.

I think it is the hubs that had issues right? I broke all of my zippers on my mine. I also had a door that wouldn’t zip right.

First time my friend had his Clam one man on the ice was 2 weekends ago. When we got to our destination, the sled already had holes worn through it. The otter has made this same trek without runners several times. Due to this, we had to haul the shacks back on our ATV. (Picture below) My brother in law hauled his new clam 2 person out, when he got to his spot the sled had several large dents in it. Again the otter was fine. I think they are pushing the quality down for larger profits.

sounds like preaching to the choir but yea had multiple zippers break back then they would replace with a new house just had to send in the clam logo from the fabric. was pumped until the zipper broke on the replacement right away.

Way back my buddy had an eskimo when the houses were green came with a heavy duty zipper don’t know why they can’t make them all that way.

I currently have an otter lodge flipover. very pleased with it.

My brother and law has a brand new clam voyager. I went with him on the maiden voyage in mid December. All we did was put in back of his truck and walk out on lake. The inside of canvas had rips and scratches all over on the inside. Seemed pretty cheap to me. I must say I do like the clam light bar, lights up my big otter Resort very nicely.
