Frogs Make Me Happy

I haven’t posted on the cat board for a long time but I thought some of you might get a kick out of this.

I’ve been cat’n for a long time now. About every other year or so I get a frog that sets up house in my boat. Each year I look forward with a bit of anticipation to see if “this year” will be a frog year. When it is a “frog year” it happens like clockwork. I set up shop at dusk – getting the rods out, rigged and set. I turn on the anchor light which attracts bugs, then sit and wait. About ½ hour after dusk Mr. frog crawls out from under my floor, hikes up to the top of the merc tiller and camps out – slurping up bugs till he’s full. Then he either sits on the motor till I pack up or he goes to bed early, fat and happy. Sometimes I’ll help him up to the top of the motor or put him away when I’m about to make a run. I’m happy to report that this year is indeed a frog year. Hopefully he’s found a home for the summer. Makes time go by a bit quicker while waiting for the big bite…

Not sure why he attached up side down.

Maybe that super cool guy used to be catfish expert for In-Fisherman magazine. He passed maybe 15 years ago. Wasnt very old. Big person if I remember correct. His name escapes me. Real common guy. Likeable. Help here somebody please…

Cool story. Last year I opened the bimini top and there was a bright green tree frog just chilling in there. It eventually got to hot im guessing and jumped ship.

Very cool. I love those tree frogs. I think it was 2 summers ago that we had a bumper crop at the cabin. Seemed like everywhere I went, there were 1 or 2 of them peaking out.

I thought for sure you were going to post a big ol flat using a toad for bait!

Good to hear from you again Dirk!
Your kids must be old enough to pull up anchor for you by now?!

    Awesome!

We had a big one hanging around the house that we named. With the drought, we haven’t seen as many tree frogs and none hang out on the gutters during the day.

The big one here is bigger than your palm. Like the OP, every morning we would hear hear jumping on the patio and onto the gutter to make her way up to the elbow. Frog Morning.

The last time I saw “Toad” before Friday he was hanging on to the Merc for dear life as I cruised down the river heading home after a night of cat’n. I’m happy to report he survived the trip. Hopped around quite a bit Friday night, finally settling on the trolling motor. I have to admit I wondered how frog would be for flathead bait, but only for a second.
