Friendly Pool 4 near Red Wing/Hastings advice for a newb?

Here I am, after a summer of not knowing what I am doing, I decided to jump on here and ask after lurking around for a few months. I live in Cannon Falls and recently purchased a boat. I absolutely love getting out on the river… except I don’t know what I am doing when it comes to catching fish on the river. I have a little luck on the lakes up north but river fishing is a different game. Any friendly advice to catch some fish on the stretch from Red Wing up to Hastings? Obviously walleye’s are the prime target but I really enjoy fishing for large/small mouth bass. Although anything to bend a rod tip is nice!

Any help is much appreciated. With Fall on the way I’d love to be out catching fish as from what I have read it seems to pick up about this time of the year.

    Thanks
    Brandon

There are several persons from this site living very close to your home. If I were in your shoes I’d find a couple of these guys and make arrangements to fish a morning or two with them so you get a first hand look at how rigging is done and where the fishing is. Once you done that a couple times you’ll be in far better shape that us trying to explain it all.

If you want to focus on bass, try launching at Wabasha’s public access and then playing around in the back waters just below and on the Wisconsin side of the high bridge. Casting the rock rip-rap all along the MN side of Pepin from Lake City down to LaCupolis can be very good bass fishing right now too AND you can pick up some nice walleyes and sauger at times right along with the bass.

Thanks for the reply Tom. If anyone that knows what they are doing and are willing to show a new guy around let me know, I would be excited for the opportunity.

I’ll give the rip rap a shot.

    Thanks
    Brandon
