    Does that happen very often? That has to be a pain to get them out of there, especially in the high water.

    They used two tugs connected together to pull each tow out.

    In Red Wing there were a couple over the years but I don’t ever recall that many. Some of the older farts may recall better though.

    Sounds like the two that are left have sunk. Thats a mess to clean up. Do you think they will leave them til lower water levels?

    Lived in Dubuque all my life (70) years and have never seen anything like it with a whole tow coming apart. There have been a few instances of single barges getting loose in the pool but nothing like this. One barge made it through a gate and was captured. I’d bet they will have to wait for normal river levels to remove the remaining two that are full of grain and sunk.

    Catfishing (channels) may have an unexpected up tick below the dam this year.

    Ol’ Pete was telling me of a tow that broke loose and lost its soy beans a decade or so ago. He thought that “every channel cat in Lake Pepin came to the dam.”
