Ripley keeps teeing up roosters for me, yet I keep spoiling the fun. I’m not a great shot, but I’m not this terrible, either. Grrr! I feel bad for him, but I’ll drop his first “real” rooster soon.

Back when I pheasant hunted there were seasons that I couldn’t miss and seasons I couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn. Never could figure that out.

Don’t worry, you’ll start knockin em down! Besides, Ripley will forget the misses pretty quick as he looks to flush the next Rooster. waytogo

Do not feel bad. I was hunting with my setter and for some reason he broke the point and started chasing the bird that was running and fast. Of course I was on the wistle and yelling at him to come back suddenly he truned around and came running as fast as he could right at me. When he was about 10 yards from me the bird he was chasing flussed right over my head I turned and shot and missed, the dog calmy came as sat down by me looking up at me wigh this look that said who is the dumb A** now? Sometimes they are smater than us!! It will all come in time. Good luck and have fun!!

Sounds like me opener weekend! I couldn’t hit the broad sign of a barn that day, and I’m normally an okay shot. I think sometimes it’s just the excitement being out there. You hear the bird cackle or flush and then you get all worked up. Kinda like when you’re fishing and you get a bite and you’re just so excited that you “set the hook” clear out of the fishe’s mouth and halfway back to the boat. If you don’t get excited once in a while then you’re probably not doing it right. waytogo There will be more hunts, more birds, more fun and and Ripley will forget all about those missed birds.

Last year I was a laserbeam. Last weekend I missed my ass off. Welcome to the club.

I have mentioned this before on another thread,my buddy Smitty had a yellow lab that would pee on your feet if you missed a bird, tanker was not trained to do that and he knew who shot and missed.
after a while his reputation for doing this was taken to heart,er feet, not many missed when hunting with tanker after that.
