What the heck kind of shoes are those EPG? Lol did your dogs chew on them or what

A better question would be ” Do they sell Men’s shoes where you purchased those ”

I know, it’s shocking but we’re out there in numbers.

Yep. Far to many of you and the Wagon riders. That is why we are where were at, and why we will stay there. Sad but true. Just sit back and watch this once great country become like the 3rd world countries, and then try and do something about it when its to late. I hope for your families sake you don’t have children. If you do they, or their children will pay for your way of thinking.

I guess another way to look at is say you are told your bill is $25 when you go to the bar. You give them a $50 and they keep your change. Are you OK with them just keeping the change?

No, but im also not gonna pull my hair out about it day after day year after year like i see so many who are interested in politics do. i guess im just an easy going guy. can call me a sucker if you want. i just dont care that much about money. never have and dont think i ever will. I have enough for me and my family – whether i get buried with a dollar or a million of em doesnt really matter much to me. Doesnt make me a Walz fan but thats what seems to separate me from many of the people who tend to favor the GOP – concern over money.

The irony is, most of my friends and acquaintances who favor the right because they view the GOP policies as having a better chance of increasing their wealth, are already quite wealthy individuals. From what i remember of the covid threads and how many people on this forum earned too much to qualify for the handouts, id guess that the majority of IDO members are quite wealthy too

Oh i get it and makes perfect sense. i understand why its important to you and to others. im just saying its not important to me. Im never gonna win against the government taking my money. My time on this earth is short and i want to be a happy person. I have never ever met a person who frets about money and the governments handling of their money that is a happy, positive person. They are always pissed off. For me the choice is easy. Time well spent >>> Money

I would call anyone a sucker who wants to pay more taxes.. and get nothing for it. And an even bigger sucker if you continually vote in favor of it !!! That’s just me… a very happy positive person who doesn’t like paying taxes to support those who could do it themselves, but choose not to. wave grin

I never said I want to pay more in taxes. I said it’s gonna happen whether I become irate daily on forums and make a political party a part of my identity or not.

And I have no doubt you are consistantly pleased with yourself big_g. Your sense of self worth has never been in question waytogo

We’re all good over here, thank ya much! I have 26 children and am brainwashing each of them to be good little socialists who will keep y’all crying for years to come! wave

Crappie, couldn’t have said it better.

Musky, the bar tab analogy is another leap. I knew what my tax rate was going in. They didn’t suddenly increase my rate and take more than they said they would. My tax liability was exactly what I expected it to be. My bar tab, on the other hand…

    I appreciate that perspective Crappie!

The more people are less committed to their teams, the better off we’d all be. And the less power the politicians would hold. It’s not like either one of them is fiscally responsible in any way shape or form, it’s really an argument of who is less irresponsible.

    Wow.

I’m not on Facebook, Twitter, or any other social media for a reason and one of things I’ve enjoyed in my few years here is that (mostly) this kind of nonsense has not been part of the equation.

We all have our own opinions, and I think we all pretty much want the same things.

But I can’t remember the last time another angler started ranting to me about funding free tuition for “illegals,” paying for prison sex changes, “stealing” and other over the top rhetoric. If I ran into that out on the water I’d back away quickly, so I hate to see it here.

That said I would only ask some of you to consider a few things:

We live in arguably one of the greatest states in the nation, with good health care, a well above average public education system, one of the best state parks systems in the country, above average infrastructure, a decent collection of Fortune 500 companies, and millions upon millions of acres of protected and well maintained wilderness that rivals anywhere in the world.

Is that in dispute, or something we can agree on?

We have gotten here, historically, through a (mostly) sensible set of elected officials and decisions from both parties, most of whom have had the same general goal regardless of approach. I didn’t agree with or vote for Arne Carlson, but he was one of our most effective governors ever as far as I’m concerned.

Our current administration and legislature found themselves with a once-in-a-lifetime $17BB lottery ticket (this is due largely to Covid, and the overall madness that a global pandemic brings about; there was no evil, secret plot to overtax us all.)

So now there is a choice:

We can give it all back, or even most of it back. Heck, how about just a little? These are otherwise known as Jesse Checks. I bought my first kayak with my Jesse Check. If they sent it all back, and said “oops,” we could all upgrade our fishing gear or get that new lithium battery we’ve been eyeing.

Or, we could make an unprecedented, historical investment into this already great state that not only sets us up for the future but also strives to help solve some of the inequalities and institutional problems that are destroying the lives of vast portions of society that are not “you.”

Free lunches for poor kids? Free college tuition for those making under $80K a year? Providing (subsidized, not free) health care for all humans who live in this state? Voting rights expansion?

    The horror.

Oh, and top of it we have the largest environmental/DNR budget in the history of Minnesota by a wide margin, one that will never been seen again. This is in large part (and probably wholly) due to that budget surplus. Our park infrastructure, fish hatcheries, access, and wildlife protection will only get better, not worse.

If none of that is worth the small increase in DNR fees, or your inability to cash a $1K payback check, or the idea of continuing to pay “even more” taxes into this great state is offensive there are plenty of other states.

Before you take the leap you might want to take a look around at the education systems, the natural resources, the overall poverty, and the quality of the state parks and boat landings in most other states, and balance that with how much you’ll be saving from with your one-time refund, and how much less you’ll have to pay-in over time.

Minnesota is not perfect, but it is pretty close.

    You are not alone, dirtywater.

And to crappie — your attitude is a good one, but sometimes it is important to care and to speak up.

p.s. Also, I can smoke weed without being treated like a criminal for the first time in my life )

Are some form of Walz checks coming soon? Or did I miss something?

I admittedly gave up trying to sift through the lies multiple presidents and governors ago.

The wife just told me on a whim tonight that when the kids graduate, she wants to rent out the homestead and continue to lease out the ag and hunting land and move to either Costa Rica or Barbados.

I opened a bottle of wine for her and a new bottle of Makers for myself to help coordinate the conversation. I could pivot faster than a corrupt politician to deep sea fishing in the blink of an eye

MN is not a bad place to raise a family or recreate in most instances. Like any state, there are areas that fit different peoples’ interests or have unique struggles. The middle class citizens will be beat up with taxation though.

It is however a bad place to take residence in if you want to retire and live off planned passive revenue (retirement investments accounts, land leases, etc). Hence, why we will ultimately be out of here at some point for at least 6 months of the year. I don’t foresee us ever selling everything, but being tax smart snowbirds is likely in the works some day.

If we go off the true definition of welfare the biggest benefactors are multi billion dollar corporations in many forms, mainly being subsidies.

Yet here we are arguing tampons and free lunches, just like they want us to.

Thank you all for paying for my kids lunches for the next 13 years. I really appreciate it.

I’m generally OK with this, but for years there were a lot of families that racked up thousands of dollars in lunch bills with the school district and didn’t pay them, while the rest of us did. What happened to their bill? Just picked up by the state and the rest of the taxpayers.

I have no problem paying for other kids’ lunch who cannot do it themselves what I do however have a problem with is those of us who can get ours free too. I dont mind paying for it its not that expensive. No one would know who is getting free lunch or who is paying since they all have to use their account anyhow.
