that held off until 4 am.

Neither Steve and I fish in lightening so it was back and forth whether to go out Friday. The weathermen just couldn’t get together for a unified forecast. The decision was made and I picked up the 8+ inch live suckers at Runnings Farm and Fleet, took my short beauty nap and it was off to the back channel ramp. Since the weather was questionable, I wasn’t too surprised to see just a couple rigs in the lot.

Steve ended up with 4 channels with 10 pounds being the largest. I like seeing the first fish caught a small one although it didn’t have to be THAT small!

Four flatheads were brought in with a 20 pounder being the largest. Well I’m guessing on that wait as we had another run and ended up forgetting to weigh it.

Weather? From 10 to Midnight it was a clear sky with stars shining brightly. It started clouding up as we approached 1 am.

Steve’s always good company and a very good angler. I’m looking forward to next time!

I always enjoy the pictures and details BK. Thanks for posting them!

My son Ryan and I went out of Bay Point Friday evening. Fished from 5:30 PM until 11:00. He pulled in 5 cat’s and I only one. I was using live creek chubs and he went with cut bait. The picture is Ryan with his largest to date at 18 pounds.

We were surprised that there were only 2 trailers in the parking lot when we arrived but that made it nice and quiet on the river….and the light wind kept bugs away! Made for a very good evening.

    18 Pounds!! Swa-eat!!

We never knew what was on the end of the line. At least two of the caught flats came in on cut bait. All the channels were on cut or stink bait.

Honestly, we have paid attention to your posting over the years and bought that life jacket because of your comments and others on this site. We always, always have it on. Now I have to find time to get my daughter out. She has been with me twice and only landed one 5 pounder this year. She loves the fight and the pull on the line!

We love catfishing…….partly because we really suck at walleye fishing! laugh

It is harder when we have to find the fish. Much easier when they find you!

I’m taking the FGD out next weekend if it’s not raining. I’m sure a 4.75 year old is going to need some help bringing one in… but I know she’s going to get a kick out of it!

The flats spawned out yet BK? How is the muddy water affecting them, or how you are fishing them?

Taking my boys out for the first time this year. Hoping to find at least one. PM with tips if you’re feeling generous!

    The flats spawned out

Definitely pre-spawn for a while yet.

I have a spot for you and kids, if you fish it right, it is a guarantee. Not a traditional flathead tactic but I’d rather catch them at noon then midnight.

It don’t kick out monsters but it always holds fish.

3-8oz jigs on 10/0 hooks w/7-12″ suckers suspended over rock/structure.

    Pm if interested.

My favorite tactic as they absolutely pound the suspended jig and only occasionally ghost bite.

Andy will get you set up, take him up on it.

BTW discolored water doesn’t affected fish that use smell and vibration. They come to the bait with in reason. Fish that rely more on sight struggle.
