Just looked at fish fries around metro and Hudson area posted in Pioneer Press. Mostly serving cod and some walleye. Growing up in SE Wisconsin perch was always the norm and still is. Anyone know if any place that serves this?

Its rare to find perch in MN for sure. There are a few places that serve sunfish, but I am not aware of a place that has perch.
Ultimate Sports Bar in St Cloud serves sunfish.
Most of the fish fries around here are now Pollak not cod. I actually prefer that over cod.
My son worked at the local bar last night and he made some fantastic fish for me. I was worried because frying fish can be tough but he cooked them to perfection.

Which one? Trobec’s does an awesome Lenten Buffet, for anyone around St. Cloud. In the SW Metro there is a severe lack of options imo. Growing up in Sartell it seemed like every church/VFW/bar had some sort of Lent fish fry. In the SW Metro the Chan VFW does a good one, but it’s crazy busy as one of the only options nearby. One of the Chaska churches does one as well I believe, and there’s a bar that is doing one this year but I haven’t checked either of those out yet. Tough to beat a good Lenten Fish Fry!

I have wanted to get out and try Trobec’s ever since I moved to Sartell. It was closed for covid 2 years ago. I need to get out there. I hear it is REALLY good. They serve more than just fish. Just checked them out and facebook and 24 different items available on the lenten Buffet

He works at Upper Deck. Its a mile from our house. I am also on the Board of Governors who meet there daily at 4. -)
Trobecs does have a great Lenten fish fry for sure. We used to go to Royalton for their fish fry at the VFW. Man they would get a turnout and they served $1 grasshoppers!

Another fantastic buffet is the Greenwald Pub. Small town, but they pump out the food. Not as good as Trobecs, but still very good with selection.

Nice, The Deck (as we called it) has really done a 180, it was a dump back in my HS days but the new owners did a great job on the remodel. I hardly recognized it when I stopped in last time.

Captain Musky – You must live rather close to me. I’m also not to far from Upper Deck. I drive by it often and keep telling my wife we need to stop in there to eat. going to have to do it one of these days.

I haven’t been to the Upper Deck since I’ve been of legal drinking age (and I’m almost 41).

I think it’s now owned by a classmate of mine and her husband–at least it was.

Clearly! And Ralph when we were under 21, that just meant you had to drink in the parking lot at the Deck rotflol

Yes, Moose and Amanda! Great people. They completely redid the inside. You wouldnt recognize it. They have done a great amount to that place and have a very loyal group of customers. Heck, they even made a street sign with the street that we live on it and hung it on the wall because we go there so much. -)

Its kinda funny its still named the upper deck when one of the first things they did was tear down the UPPER DECK. LOL Just prior to the Pandemic they were going to create a big banquet area where the volleyball courts are. With everything getting shut down they had to scrap that idea at least for now.

I’ll do that! She is busy right now with it being tax season so we havent seen her much. I am sure I will see her this weekend. Its funny when they come in the customer entrance as a customer. We all give them a funny look. Moose (Andy) is a great guy. Definitely fits his nickname. He’s like 6’9″.

Ha! Yeah, Rusty Nail is good too. Actually I cant remember a fish fry that wasnt good regardless of where it was. Rusty Nail has equally as good hot wings as Howies does and theyre cheaper too. I dont go there enough but since Upper Deck is so close its my go to.
