…Very Nice Turn Out For Sure. That is a record turn out for the later yrs. of the FYBO. But Butt for some yrs. in the past (either side of 30yrs ago) it was not uncommon to have 100 boats or more. There was a Buddy of mine that was in the line to sign up on the morning of the Butt. That did not get in because they quit taking boats at 120. Back in those days you could only sign up on the morning of the tourney. They were running late and were still taking entrys after the start time when they cut off the signups… …rrr

Good testament to the river guys! I’m to wimpy to ever fish that thing but I certainly understand the desire to get on the water this time of year.

Randy (RCR) I thought they stopped taking boats back then because of the dinosaurs crossing the road… well that’s the campfire stories I’ve heard. whistling

Because I know many people looking at this topic fish the river this time of year—– When an outboard is tipped to the down position does it drain all water? I have always been leery of taking the boat out in sub-zero temps mostly because I don’t want to cause any damage to my new fourstroke when transporting it home after a day of fishing in freezing temps. (Obviously the temps were much warmer for this tournament) Thanks!

Yes all the water will drain out. Some guys will start the motor on shore for a few seconds. I know my etec used to take way longer than the yamaha, or the mercury to drain. If it was really cold I would start the etec to speed the process. I have noticed a few times earlier this year out on the water that guys would lift their big motors out of the water using the trolling motor when it was really cold (1F). That is not a good idea because the lower unit will still be full of water, and I would think it wouldn’t take long to freeze and cause some type of damage quickly. It is best to leave the motor down in the water while fishing. Maybe my logic is wrong. It wouldn’t be the first time.

Spot on Mr. Farley. The water temp is above freezing and lifting the motor out of that “warm” water is flirting with trouble.
