Free CAD software

Is anyone familiar with free CAD software found online? I am looking to draw up a few things so I can have them fabricated. I really only need 2D CAD to do this since the parts are very simple.

Basically wondering if anyone has used something recently that they really like.

    Thanks!

You may be able to get AutoCAD LT for a free trial.

However, if you want to send me a sketch, I could draw it up for you since I have the full version. PM me if you want and I will shoot you my email.

I am familiar with autocad. I could actually do this at work because I have a full version as well, but I’d rather not. I am hoping to make a profit someday with this.

Thanks for the offer to draw it up but I’d like to keep have the drawing where I can edit and duplicate if necessary.

Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll look into them.

I’ve got draftsite also and it operates very similar to autocad like said. For all my 2d stuff it works just fine.

Free for “students”. I cant remember how you verify that your an actual student somewhere. Email address i think. I remember it asking how long you expected to be a student, i think it had a 10 year limit.

There’s always old fashioned graph paper and a pencil.

Thanks for the recommendations. I went with draftsifgt. Worked pretty well so far.

    You forgot “eraser”. blush

Sounds expensive. Plus I’d have to learn math.

I went with the free software.

If you have a decent internet connection, and adequate hardware, TinkerCAD is free and works great. There is no software to download. You basically ‘stream’ it from their site.

Good luck! Be sure to show us some drawings when you are done.

I’m doing some really simple stuff. I need the drawing so I can get some materials quoted for a my project. Unfortunately I likely won’t be offering any drawings but my immediate hopes are to offer some prototypes to IDO members once complete. Stay tuned. Maybe less than a month away.

I design a lot of parts in TinkerCAD.
