lots of discussions online about how you likely won’t get anything close to the $125 payout, that number is based on very a low estimate of people who will submit a claim, once the claim number goes higher, the $ amount gets spread out more and more, you’re better off taking the free credit monitoring option instead…

My brother did qualify for that, my wife and I did not. So FYI it must not be everyone.

How did you know if you qualified or not?
Did you get a rejection email?

In that link there is another link to see if your credit was impacted. I did not qualify either.

Well I qualified, so turns out you can get a lot more than $125 if you spent time “recovering” from the breach. I didn’t, so didn’t put any time down. But you can claim to have lost up to 20 hours of time which they reimburse 25$/hr. So a person could be compensated up to $5,000 for lost time, and if you lost money, they’ll pay up to $20,000… I’ll just take my $125 I guess

Same here. After about 2 minutes of following the link rjthehunter posted, I’m apparently going to get a $125 check mailed to me. Almost seems to good to be true!

might not be worth the dough because if you request free credit monitoring or a cash payment you’re giving up your right to take legal action against Equifax in the future. This means that if somebody steals your identity in the future, you can’t sue Equifax. You’re settling your legal issue with Equifax right now.

In what version of someone stealing your credit, would you hold Equifax liable anyways?

I qualify and will likely go for the 10 years of free credit monitoring. IMO that’s worth A LOT more than $125. Being able to freeze your credit is huge when it comes to protecting yourself.

And regarding the legal action against them, most people don’t have the resources to go after a corporation such as them. They likely have a team of lawyers assigned just to this issue.

If I’m seeing things correctly… it looks like you have to prove you already have credit monitoring before you can opt for the cash.

I actually read up on this…by taking the money it DOES NOT exclude you from future law suites.

This settlement is for this lawsuit only. Should something happen in the future, you can still file a new lawsuit with them. It’s simply for this breach of security in 2017.

tegg, I read the same portion, but that wasn’t shown until after I requested my $125. I didn’t see anything else posted about it other than right after I hit the submit button so I don’t believe there is any requirement to have credit monitoring. Either way, I guess I’ll find out soon enough.

To all who did sign up, respond to this thread if you get a check. I couldn’t find any sort of timeline on when it’s supposed to be sent/received.

You check to see if you were affected here.

My wife and I both qualified. I took the $125…if we ever get it.
I would have thought there would have been some kind of notification when they got hacked and they found out who’s information was hacked. I don’t recall getting anything from them!
I must not be worth anything. I never had my credit threat or fraud committed against me.

Keep in mind that we wouldn’t know if our credit was effected.

It could be just in the form of credit inquiries which can and do affect your score. (Point here is that we might not have been able to detect fraud or lost money, but if your score may have been lowered by this)

Claims must be claimed by early (Jan or Feb) 2020 I believe I saw. Payout would take place shortly after that I’m guessing.

Local news lady just announced about a nationwide Equifax scam. I missed some of it but didn’t sound like anything but a scam.
