Well, I was in the right place at the right time today. Was working in Appleton for a couple days, and a buddy of mine called me yesterday afternoon, to invite me to join him at DePere. Never fished there before, although I think most of us hear about the early spring bite it’s known for. Wasn’t able to get over there till early afternoon today, and they met me at the dock at 1, after spending 4 hours on the water. They had boated 9 eyes between 16 and 22 inches, and had a few get unbuttoned. The three of us only boated another 8 for the next three hours, with biggest again at 22 inches, so it wasn’t fast and furious by any means. but most boats in our small pack near the 172 Bridge were pulling in some fish. I jigged and pitched plastics for the first two hours with no hits, so cried uncle and put on some meat. The larger pack of boats were closer to the dam area. Light winds and slow current made vertical jigging a breeze, although some boats were anchored. Our fish came in 12 to 18 fow. It wasn’t quite the bumper boats I’d heard about for this stretch, and there’s a lot of water to fish, but may be different on weekends.
