Took a ride to check a small pond for ice this morning. When I arrived 4 other people were fishing….good sign. Walked out 30-35 yards and drilled a hole and found about 3 1/2 inches of solid ice, and not even 5 feet of water. I only brought 1 jig rod rigged with a small gold/silver Mepps Little Wolf spoon, and my Vexilar. After about 10 mins I hooked on to a nice brookie about 15 or so inches. Snapped a few pics and released it.

Nice! What area were you fishing for brookies? I never have and am considering targeting them.

I am fishing in southern Maine. lots of lakes get stocked with brookies annually. the fishing is good in the early season. you got to go in the northern regions of maine to find the natives.
