Dutchboy, I’m in Ontario, but will keep the dealer name quite for now. You know give them a chance to support the customer )

This post was really to find out if I’m expecting to much from Alumacraft because I never really paid attention to them. Until I sat in the Competitor, and really liked the layout compared it’s aluminum competitors.

If it floats, goes and catches fish I would be good with it. Not much different than a good truck. Its ment to be beat on. Just as long as they fix it fast when it does break.

While I’m waiting for a response from Alumacraft other than we are looking into it. I have been going over the boat every chance I get. I have found a few other issues.

I’m wondering if anybody with a 205 can check the running pad on their hull with a 4′ level. I was checking the hull for hooking and it seems from about 3′ ahead of the transom the is angled up and not flat. I suspect it’s by design but I want to make sure.

Here’s the pic it’s hard to get a good one.
    hooking?

One of the compartments looks like someone pulled the carpet off and never put it back in. The little black lines are either adhesive or carpet backing.

Yours looks good compared to ours. I can actually stick my finger in between the rivet strip and the keel. Missing screws, deck not even close to level. It’s been 22 weeks since we have seen our boat between the dealer and Alumacraft. Getting ready to hire an attorney to get this resolved. They can’t even give us a timeline of when we may get our boat back. I will post pictures in another post.

Not the time of year to have a boat sent back to the factory. They are cranking out new orders generated from all the sport shows running now across the country.

Hope it all turns out well for both of you, tough situation to be in with a new purchase.

10-15 hrs on their motor per yer? LOL I put 10 – 12 hours on a day

Is your dealer working with to fix the imperfections?

Sounds like Alumacraft is quickly making a bad name for themselves…..

Well, it’s been at the dealer since October and they couldn’t repair it, so they shipped it back to Alumacraft.

I have an Alumacraft and this whole post frustrates me because these are things that I have bragged about that brand and now to see some grotesque issues like this makes me ill and upset for you. I bought my current boat new in 2010 and didn’t have 1 single issue. It still looks as good as the day I bought it and nothing sags that shouldn’t and the carpet looks new after a quick pressure wash.
Some of those issues I think happened at the dealer, but the majority of those would have been in the manufacturing process.
Hopefully this gets resolved and soon because open water is approaching.

Renee, I wouldn’t even be asking for the boat back, I would be insisting on a new hull with that kind of gap! How does it not leak?

My issue is my dealer says they will champion for me but I’m not seeing that. If I was the dealer I would be saying “Send my customer a new boat, this boat is brand new never touched water and should not have dents etc in the hull”

Even though they are replacing the bow carpet, console, supposedly replacing the trailer fender and tongue. These are minor issues compared to the the dent in the underside of the hull right on a seam and a rivet that was clearly repaired after being painted!

The dry storage areas are completely soaked all the time. They tell me that is “ the nature of the beast”. Why would you put carpet in this area then? I think the boat is taking on water. They said it would be sinking if that’s the case. We’ll see what the manufacturer says. They are supposed to have repairs completed this week. It better be just like a new boat because that’s what I bought and am paying for.

Wow, looks like we are in the same boat (no pun intended!!) I am done with this boat and I think I will be telling them the deal is off!

This was my dealers reply after a stern letter from me trying to get a resolution for 1.5 months, demanding a date this work would be completed by.
    ****************************************************************************
We have submitted warranty for the issues regarding your trailer, carpet and console and are awaiting delivery of parts and touch-up paints from the appropriate suppliers. Once those are all received will bring the boat in and complete the work.

With regards to the hull scratch. We will touch up the paint as well.

I have received word from Alumacraft that your boat was water tested prior to leaving the factory and that the boat is within all specifications for their quality control. They are confident and stand behind the warranty that accompanies all their boats including yours, and should a problem arise within the conditions of the warranty they stand behind their commitment to honor the warranty.

Once I have new information regarding deliver of the warranty parts/paints I will be in contact regarding the service on your boat.
    ***********************************************************************

So they are going to “touch up” paint that is baked on!! What good will that do!

They are planning on tearing up new the bow carpet and gluing down new carpet.. ON A BRAND NEW BOAT!! Just ship new finished panels!

AND STILL NO DATE FOR THE REPAIRS!

I understand the frustration, but it really isn’t that simple for them I am sure all of the completed panels are spoken for another boat in the Production queue. Yeah, they could probably re-direct them toward your boat, but that could conceivably cause a delay in production. They have narrow windows where they run specific models and they typically don’t have mountains of excess inventory on stuff like this I wouldn’t imagine.

I can see that, but it is absurd they can’t give me a date. I was trying since middle of Feb to get them to agree to see the boat.

I hate to say this Greg, I really do, but the whole reply from the dealer indicates that they are taking the “lipstick on a pig” approach to “fixing” your boat. Touch up paint? Really? And it took them over a month to come up with that rigging job “solution”? Not good.

I’d seriously think about telling the dealer to buy it back. No lawyers, no bad PR, just hand the money back and everyone walks away. It’s brand new, they should have no issue with that.

Again, sorry for the situation and your trouble. I really feel for you, nobody should hve to deal with this BS on a “fun” purchase.

I feel the same way Grouse! I gave them until this past Friday for a date and still no date. The wife and I lamented over this all weekend. We have decided we want a new hull. A purchase at this price point should not have these issues, so it’s new hull or boat is returned.

I will know this afternoon what is happening, one way or the other, will will be in a different boat.

I would much prefer to run from Alumacraft, they have said 3 times they would call me and have not. I’m disgusted with this manufacture, should have stayed with a Lund!

Did you get any resolution Greg? We got our boat back last Thursday after having dropped it off to the dealer in October for warranty and repair issues. We met with the dealer’s owner to go over everything. After all this time and frustration you would think they would have checked everything out to make sure it was in perfect condition. Nope.Nada. There was virtually no gas in the boat. there are multiple paint chips now.The horn wasn’t working (turned out to be a loose wire). They missed a snap for the cover. They did get the decking pretty level though and replaced the back livewell and installed some vents in the storage areas. So, after washing and waxing it when we got home(no, they didn’t even do that), we put it in water on Sunday. After less than 24 hours on the water, the storage compartments are soaking wet (no rain and fully covered), the back livewell won’t drain at all either.
I did e-mail my dealer and Alumacraft rep with no repsonse. All my dealer did was complain that he had to pay for a new boat cover since they either lost or damaged the one we had.
It looks like we are going to be hiring an attorney. I just want my money back at this point.

Disgusting Renee, absolutely Disgusting! We did get, I posted it in another thread but here is the gist.

The idea they had on these boats would be a very big winner, but this company has serious issues. They better do a complete 180! If they ever
want me to be a customer or to stop letting the world know how bad they actually are right now!

I’m going to start posting on their FB page, as soon as I put this thing in the water and make sure it floats this weekend!

    ****************************************************************************
I don’t know if it’s because I’m in Canada and we are a much smaller customer base, or they just don’t care! I have yet to be contacted by anyone from Alumacraft since Feb!
While my dealer played the martyr about getting me a replacement hull and giving me the whole spiel about cutting a check out of their own pocket to buy the boat from another dealer to replace mine, and that know other dealer would do this. I said to that, you either bought this boat at a discount and sold it at full pop or Alumacraft sent it to you like this and your service department didn’t inspect the boat at all! Of course this was said after I picked the new boat up ;)

Alumacraft had the nerve to send me a survey request and after giving them a full review of my experience all I got was a thank you for being a customer and $100 credit towards some crap hats and tee-shirts.. Disgusting!

I will never suggest anybody buy an Alumacraft.

Not that it matters but was the boat built pre or post BPR’s buying AlumaCraft?

I hope you catch a lot of nice fish and have a great time in with your boat, Greg! Hopefully that will help overcome the BS you’ve dealt with.

    Good luck!

Dutchboy, That I am not sure of. We thought about that. Noone can seem to figure out where the water is coming from. After 24 hours at the slip, with no rain the compartments should not be soaked.
And Belletaine, we do our very best to catch lots of nice fish.

So finally picked up my Comp 205 tiller, and wow I dont have the problems like Greg Does. Dude, so sorry for that. I do think their quality control dept should be revamped!!!! Minor things like latches falling off, or really loose. Other than that, things seem to be nice. My one question for anyone with the 115 hp on a comp 205 tiller, is what prop are you running?

That’s good to here Larry! My replacement hull didn’t have any of these issues either.
I figure the dealer got the boat discounted and sold at full pop OR this boat was damaged and repaired at the manufacture and they shipped it out. I don’t see any reason why they would pull panels of carpet up and not replace them if they were not repairing something. On the same note, I’m not sure why rivets would be bucked after being painted unless a leak was detected but you would think they’d check for leaks before painting!

Either way I’m sure they will sell my first boat, which is just brutal. Hiding behind “The manufacture say’s it’s in spec and passed QA” is crap as well!

Enjoy the new ride man! I haven’t put mine in the water yet, still trying to get everything rigged up!

As far as prop goes, they put a 13X17 3 blade Yamaha aluminum on mine.

    Hoping this weekend!

Is it normal to have drill holes in both the bottom of the keel strip and the bottom of the splash guards. I am suspecting the dealer drilled these out to dry our boat out and maybe forgot to fill in. They look like newly drilled holes. They don’t look factory since they are not located on the same spacing on both sides.

UM…. I’d definitely not happy if someone put a drill to my boat!! I think’d be snapping!! Do you mean the splash well, why the hell would they need to drill that?
