7 year old truck should not be rusting, at least finished surfaces, unless it is damaged… or should it ? crazy

I have a monthly car wash program with Mister car wash for unlimited washes. I run it through the wash several times a week and have for many years. I don’t wax them or use any rust proofing of any kind. I get many comments on how nice my trucks look. All I buy are F150’s. For Me frequent washing is the key.

I also wash my F-150 a ton and I believe it has helped with rust. I am starting to get some small penny size rust spots on my front bumper but that’s about it. I’ve read about people getting rust on the bottom corners of the cab but for me I havent had that problem at all and I check it often after hearing about that problem on them.

Not trying to turn this into a Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge thing at all. But from what I’ve noticed on the road it seems like you always see rust on Ram trucks. Honestly I think all truck’s will rust up here and some brands from what I’ve notice rust faster than others. I’m sure there is some 2012 F-150s that have way more rust than I have so maybe I’m lucky.

I have two different friends that each own body shops. One in MN and one in SD. I’ve been talking to both recently about rust and which truck models they are seeing the most problems with, as I’m about to drop $35K or more on a truck sometime soon.

Dodges are rusting the fastest. Both shops have had 2016 Rams in for quarter panel repair/replacement already.
2014 & newer Chev & GM trucks seem to be ok so far, both of my buddies feel the prime areas for concern will be the wheel wells if the truck has the wheel well trim installed.
2014 & older fords the first area of concern is the cab corners. Very very common to see cab corners shot on these models.
2015 & newer fords seem to only have dissimilar metal corrosion where steel fasteners are used on the aluminum body.
2007 & newer Toyotas seem to have rust resistant bodies, but lingering frame rust concerns even though class action lawsuits were supposed to clear that up and force design changes.
