I’ll be going down to Rochester today to visit with a friend whose at the clinic. It’s been years since I’ve been through Rochester. Can anyone recommend a good place to have dinner? Nothing fancy maybe in the $10-$18 a plate range. Would be great if it had a good selection of tap beer too. Much obliged

FYI – If you go downtown the meters only take coins no CC’s.March 2, 2019 at 10:33 am #1839815If you like whiskey the Half Barrel is a great place. Their food is good too. The tacos are some of the better ones I’ve ever had

I love their food and their 90’s country hole-in-the-wall atmosphere. Otherwise as others have mentioned Newt’s, Chesters (a bit expensive IMO), Whistlebinkie’s….oh and IMO John Hardy’s BBQ (a few Rochester locations) never gets the credit and attention it deserves.

On the north end of town, Texas Roadhouse has some super meals in the Walmart complex right off 55 st. Exit right coming into town off highway 52. Taking the same exit but turning left onto 55th St, then a short jaunt and a right turn onto the east frontage road will get you to Newt’s on the right hand side. Again, excellent food.
If you take the Walmart exit to the right as mentioned but get off to the left at the first light to the west frontage road and travel about a half mile you’ll find Carlos Okellys. Its a Mexican restaurant that’s pretty good food with an easy on the pocket book menu.
There’s an Applebys at the Mall, but that’ll get filled up fast after about 7 too.
If I was downtown, I’d do Dooleys. If I was on my way north, I’d do either Texas Roadhouse or Newts. Newts definitely will be less expensive and the food is superb. Beer is really cold there too if I recall correctly. Newts would likely get my nod.
