I hear fly line is the way to go. Can any one point me in the right direction? What type? Floating or non? Backing? Coated or non coated? So many choices and I’m not a fly fisherman. Thanks in advance.

I bought floating 5wt in 100ft coils on eBay for $9. Buy different colors for each rattle reel. Tie ~8-10ft fluro leader on. Catch fish.

I got flyline at Scheels for $5 a 75′ coil. I believe it was size #5. As Jamin said, tie on a leader.

I always put fly line on my rattles. It doesn’t tangle up on the floor like Dacron. I tie a swivel on and then tie whatever line you like to fish with to that. I usually do a couple feet of mono in darker water. Maybe 6 or 8 feet if mono or Floro in clear water. One nice thing about fly line is you can tie loops in it for a depth marker or clip an ice buster bobber on. They untie and straighten out easily.

my old clamp on rattle has fly line on it that came in a tackle box at an auction. really like it. then I add about 6 feet floro. worked great on red last week. no tension and a small bobber.
