Has anyone had trouble with 28 jumping depths , say fishing in 29′ of water and all of sudden it flashes to a depth of 15′ then after few seconds will flash back to 29′

I have this unit now but have only used once on Mille Lacs on both sand and mud bottoms. Been fine the several days I used it. Maybe a 14 foot high fish was intermittently swimming under your spot.

Are you using auto range. . If so that happens .. I normally use the manual mode and haven’t had any issues. This unit has been the only unit I used this season. Trying to test it to the max. So far loving it, except the 9° transducer.

I have had mine for a year and half, run in auto all the time, and have never had an issue with it jumping. I had an issue once, but that was do to a huge school of herring swimming under my hole.

I have three buddies that have this unit. one sold his outright due to similar issues. Another buddy is retired and always fishes nearly 4-5 days a week and he is on his third FL28 and has been to vexilar twice for them to look at his unit for the same problem as well as the depth not being read, not reading the bottom in shallow water (9 FOW or less) and the screen going blank/flashing. He has his third unit and we now videotaped the issues and are taking this back to vexilar for answers.
The last buddy is just dealing with it.

So far, I am glad I stuck with my FL20!

Vex auto range and marcums dynamic mode isn’t meant to work perfectly. It is an option to impress people but I find that using the manual mode takes care of your range issues. I have left my 28 on as much as 12 hours straight each outing, while fishing and searching for fish or just roaming the lake. So far I have not had any issues but its good to know what to expect with time.

I use manual mode most of the time. All the auto modes Vexilar,Humminbird, Marcum from what I’ve seen do this at sometime.

So do you really think that it was a marketing ploy to impress people just so that the product would sell? Sounds a little too strange to me and doesn’t make any sense.

I bought one in November and have really put it to the test. I absolutely LOVE it! The only time I have problems with the autorange jumping is if I am on the edge of a zoom such as 9-10ft,14-15ft, 19-20ft etc. The only other time I had it happen was in 11ft with 4 ft of thick weeds. Using the manual range always fixes the problem. Manual is quicker for hole hopping also. And the 9* Proview transducer is awesome. Can use gain to increase the angle when searching or decrease when fishing near people or in weeds.

If its not then people wouldn’t need to upgrade or use it. Only those that use it complain/ comment about it. I have both the flx28 and the marcum lx7 and I never use it regularly. Surely I’ve tried it.. but like everyone else say it moves up and down. I have no problem with it because I don’t use it.

Called vexilar they said it been a problem with some 28’s so before sending it in for warranty work to disconnect the transducer from unit and spread the 3 prongs on unit slightly( be careful they said) reconnect transducer should fix problem . Find that hard to believe but I’ll try

Kinda iffy be careful cuz they might void your warranty. . The auto range is always changing and adjusting so it’s not perfect.
