Just noticed this tonight. A red fluid leaking from these two cylinders on the back transom side. What the heck? Does anyone know what this is?

It’s atf in the hydraulic cylinder.

Not normal, right? Never seen that with any of my other Yamaha motors.

Hydraulic fluid. I’m sure the yamaha manual will spell out what fluid you need. You will need to repair the seals in those lift cylinders tho.

Tilt and trim fluid can be clear or red,and yes,ATF fluid is or can be used in them.
Most often the difference is viscocity.
Time for some seal kits, buy the end caps too as the bores will be slightly oval shaped and simply resealing them wont last long.

    Transmission fluid?

Yeah depends where the boat came from and who worked on it. Some refill with atf and some with hydraulic. It is the seals going back just as Sheldon stated. Call country view in Stacy and they will have all you need, or get a quote and they will do it for you

Depending where your at I have the wrench to replace the caps on the trim cylinders . Easy job . Make sure you replace the harmonic balancer on that engine if it’s an older series . Older than 2014 I think ? My 05 needed it .
