While on vacation in Marco Island, FL I needed to spend some time chasing Sheepshead in the inland waterways. This species is a blast to sight fish. Paddling around to docks and pilings searching for them, once you find one a well placed free-lined shrimp is hard for them to pass up!

Nice sheepie! That was pretty cool watching him followed your shrimp.
You just use a mount on the bill of your hat? What FOV do you set it at wide or medium?

Last year when I was there in February they were on a lot of pilings and docks. The water clarity was pretty good so you could see them easily. This year we went in April and got hit by a storm which seemed to drive some of them out. It also churned up the water quite a bit so seeing them wasn’t as easy. It reminds me of pitching docks for Bass but with a live shrimp.

Yeah the camera was just on a head strap/mount. I always tend to shoot in Wide FOV but while editing I zoomed in when the Sheepshead started following.
May 12, 2016 at 11:01 am #1619203I wish I lived a little closer to the ocean. I’d rather fish the salt as long as I am shore bound.
May 12, 2016 at 12:50 pm #1619247I’ll be on Sanibel in Lee County in the next few weeks (May 28th to June 4th). I’ll be running around the docks fishing for them there, but I’ll also have my big Penn 9/0 Senator for Goliath Grouper around the causeway and big sharks off the beach! I know I’ll be moving to FL once I finish college. It’s too much fun to pass up!

That sounds like a riot! I need to try surf fishing next year when I go back. That’s something I’ve never done as I don’t have a long travel rod for it. I see they make travel surf rods so I might have to swoop one up before next March.

sebastian is a couple hrs but is one of the best places ive ever fished.Yeah I know. New Smyrna and Ponce Inlet is only about 45 minutes. Haulover is about 45-60 minutes. It’s just boring driving and fishing alone, but with the wedding out of the way it’s time to man up.
I have to hit Ponce a lot. It holds fish and big ones most of the year. Maybe not as good as Port Canaveral or Sebastian, but still pretty damn good from what I hear.
May 13, 2016 at 8:58 am #1619385I forgot to add Ponce, yes ur right it does hold alot of nice fish.
