Florida fishing – July… Port Charlotte area

Does anyone have any experience with guides around the Port Charlotte area? I’ll be down mid July and might try to get out and do some fishing. I’ve done the party boat deep sea thing and have done some shore fishing around Clearwater and Long Boat Key but have not been to this area before. Open to suggestions and recommendations if there is someone you have fished with or even do it yourself areas.

    Thanks,
    Dave

Hope your arms are in shape. June/July on the Boca Grande rocks for huge Tarpon. Its a zoo with how many boats pack in there, but hook-ups are common and you get a hell of a fight. Have fun, I’m jealous

My only advise for FL guides, and I guess would be true anywhere, If they sound drunk on the phone, pass and find another. Few years ago I just assumed it was a Florida thing and all the guides sounded drunk on the phone. Guy I hired never made it to the launch. After the 2nd time of calling and getting his drunk azz out of bed, he turned his phone off and was a no-show. flame

    Dave:

Port Charlotte is a bit far north for the two Ozzies (Lessenger & Fisher > https://www.facebook.com/ozzie.fischer.9?fref=ts), but they hail from the Ft. Myers Beach area and may not work that far north. If it was a bit earlier in the season (lasts about a month, late May to mid June) I know I’d have a name for ya…

I’m a big fan of these three shows and they’ve fish with capt. from that region:

Check out Geoffery Page and Ronnie Hueston from the above websight, they may be able to help…

More later I gotta take a nap in ‘tween jobs…

Thanks guys and I hope the ideas and info keep coming.

To be honest, I am not all that excited to be going to Florida in July as I am not at all heat tolerant. But, I have some family I need to see and this is when it works out. My in-laws have a place near the Port Charlotte and Rotonda West area and June – September are the only times they are not there crazy frown

I plan to bring some tackle and do at least a little shore fishing / do it yourself things but would like to get out with a guide one day. The big question is if I will be going on my own or if my wife and son will be joining me – neither want a deep see thing (sea sickness concerns doah ) and neither are big on fishing anyway. I was even wondering about the backwater fly fishing outing but the tarpon thing would be cool.

    Thanks again! wave

Most of these guys do in-shore fishing as harmless for us lake guys for non-seasickness!!! You
might want to run down to thier area, not really that far…

    Dave,
The day I had a no-show guide, I went to Walmart, bought a rod/reel combo, jigs, and a few bags of RipTide Mullets. I had a BLAST fishing my way down the coast. Nothing big, but I caught a little bit of everything in the day roaming from Tampa to St James. There is a lot of public access if your looking for it.
