Now that I actually had a good trip at the pond, might as well create a post to log my catches.

    Florida retention pond bass

    Florida retention pond bass

I am guessing around the 4# mark. Didn’t bring my scale FML. Caught it accidentally dead sticking. Put my pole down to real in a bullhead and heard a noise. Saw my pull had been drug to the edge of the pond. She wasn’t letting go.

    Florida rentention pond sunfish

    Florida retention pond spotted sunfish

Excited about my first panfish. Could use some help IDing it.

    Florida retention pond black bullhead

Caught these another day and thought they were channels. I’m pretty sure today’s were black bullheads. No overbite. Width of the heads are crazy and these would make some nice flathead bait. They are big and fun to catch. My foot is about 11″ long, so I am guessing these are 12-14″.

Guess I should start hitting the ponds hard. Being boatless, there is no better time of the year that the pre-spawn and spawn season. Here at work I am seeing some bass sunning themselves in the shallows.

Pug that bass looks like it’s dying of aids.

I don’t know if it is just the pond bass, but the Florida strain do appear a little slimmer with big heads. She’s in better shape than the other one I caught and the one I saw dying of what appeared to be starvation.

@scottnevis we are going out on a deep sea charter and renting a pontoon for the intracoastal 2 week in March when my brother comes down. Hopefully there’ll be some reds in the Banana and Indian rivers and possibly some flounder.

Indian river is known for sea trout and the hard fighting good eating snook, as well as the hard fighting but not good eating jack. Fishing it when the tides are right is critical. My dad had a place on the Indian river for a while and you can fish it from shore as well. They even have bull sharks.

You’re killing me Pug. 66* down there today. You’ll have to find those 12# bass. you put me on them and I’ll figure out how to put you on the keeper grouper and snapper.

The pond gives up another. I cheated. I used a shiner. The scale read 3lbs 13oz

This guy spends the day squished atop our gutter. Had no idea he was this big. My hand is the same depth as him on the gutter.

I know, before anyone states the obvious…bait.

    He might eat our dogs.

I missed a good shot of him arching his back up like he was going to jump. I didn’t want to spook him with the flash. He ended up grunting and hunching back down. He must eat some pretty decent sized prey.

We had a nice weather run here but it’s not green. Ice fishing in 60+ degree weather just isn’t the same but judging from your hoodie the only difference was I wore boots and you wore sandals.

I’d hate to leave Brian out of this. This guy I think was hurt from the neighbor’s dog dragging him out of a bush and shaking him before he could grab it and toss it over the fence. I relocated him to the front yard away from the dogs.

I wish the site wouldn’t flop portrait pictures on their side!

The hoodie is an old picture. 60 in the am is different than 60 up there. No hoodie back when I was up there. From what I saw following the winter up there is was pretty mild with little snow? I know you had a couple brutal cold snaps though.

You better trade those sandals in for snake boots. Careful, those things breed like rabbits. You could always get a pet gator to keep their population down.

I don’t mind the racer and corn snakes as long as they don’t eat the frog and my dogs don’t eat them.

    Hard Card fishing license

    Minnesota Needs These ^^^

Credit Card style licenses. Florida just started offering them for an extra $4.

Also, here’s a little video of our pontooning on the St. John’s with Michelle’s sister and nieces. The cover is intimidating. Lots of place for fish to play and hide.

Yes. Much better, indeed! I’ve been saying that for years.

They are nice but paper takes up less space in my wallet.

St Johns = Blue Springs. I have spent a lot of time there. I can picture that park in great detail.

Really? I hate that I have to fold them to get them in there. Makes it a PITA to take out and put back in your wallet…for me, at least.

Blue Springs is beautiful. A fish aquarium with no walls and manatees. I have to edit together my footage from there. I wish I had a long pole mount for my GoPro at the time to reach over and get some underwater shots. There are a bunch of other springs we want to visit.

Admittedly the card is not a huge deal. For me it will take up as much space as the paper folded up or in a plastic sleeve in the pocket behind my credit cards. I may slip it into a credit card slot. In the end, it probably never comes out of the wallet. I can probably count on one hand the number of times I have had to show my license. Ok, maybe two hands.

You guys must look less shady than I do.
