“In northern Minnesota, part of Highway 29 is closed near Floodwood, about 45 miles west of Duluth. The highway is closed near Stremmel Road due to the St. Louis River flooding. Drivers are asked to use Trunk Highway 73 and Highway 133 as alternate routes. St. Louis County officials gave no timeline for the closure.”

Closer to home the Crow river is the highest its been in over a decade. The picture below is in Delano. Wonder how the mighty Mississippi and the Minnesota will fair this year

I saw that yesterday too. They said last October you could walk across the Crow River there and not get your feet wet.

Yowza. I did a little scouting of the Crow from Hanover to St. Michael on Saturday while my son was at a birthday party. It didn’t look that intense in that stretch (yet).

High water is one thing, but when debris as large as that log lodged in there starts to gather, things can get dicey fast. It looks like a complete tree’s rootball has washed up on other shore across the river too with the top down in the drink. Hopefully nothing more gets wedged in there.

Big Stone lake has had some pretty substantial flooding.
The concern now is the ice moving around.

So far down stream in Granite Falls things are ok.
I seen this morning the Yellow medicine river has gone down from what it was on Friday.

I seen this report yesterday from Milan. It isn’t flooding related but the ice closed down a lane of the highway.

When I drove over the bridge in Red Wing this morning, Freedom Island Campground didn’t have any land showing. On the upstream side, it was water from the Harbor Bar past the Woodshed to the WI Back Channel.

Everything near the river in Red Wing is barricaded.

And we are only at 14.75 with a forecasted 3 more feet to go.

It’s possible that WI Hwy 63 could be closed between the Woodshed and the Red Wing bridge, leaving Hasting or Wabasha the only way to get to Red Wing from the North.

St croix is the highest I’ve ever seen it. Absolutely raging. I feel for the family of the missing 18 year old kid who fell in last week.

Everything up there is unreal right now! My folks went up for the weekend and stopped at Jay Cook, Gooseberry, & Tettegouche. My old man got some really cool go pro footage of the rivers and falls. They were one of the last people allowed on the foot bridge at Jay Cook on Friday and they said it was absolutely incredible the force of the water, shaking the bridge. The video’s are hard to comprehend.

Are there pics of Gooseberry? I couldn’t find anything recent in a very quick Google search… Did see a pic of Jay Cook and that looked crazy.

Those videos are awesome! I wonder what the Temperance looks like?? – my favorite Northshore river. Those cauldrons almost have to fill up and become giant whirlpools of death when waters get like this. There’s SO much snow to melt up there this year.

Is it just me or does flooding seem like a more regular and severe occurrence? I remember the Red River would flood pretty regularly, and then Little Rock Lake by St. Cloud would every few years. But seems like it’s everywhere almost every year now, or I’m just hearing about them all now cuz the internet.

Looking at the top 10 high water levels for Granite falls. 6 of the top ten have been from 1997 till now.
This years won’t beat the number 10 spot however.

With that said. Us humans have an impact on it.
Lots of fields are tiled now days where as 50 years ago they were not. We build diversions for water but then Mother Nature finds the next weakest link in the downstream chain.

Drought has been a much more noticeable problem than flood in recent years. Most of the state experienced its worst drought on record two years ago, and that occurred again last year in the southern half of the state. Gooseberry falls and Minnehaha creek completely dried up.

I personally would rather have an abundance of water than a drought.

I’m wondering how long into the summer St Croix will be no wake? I think unless we get a ton of spring rain, Minnetonka shouldn’t need to go no wake. It had a big deficit to make up from low water from last year.

Just think how much fuel is being saved on the Croix. No wake boats. No tuna boats. No jet heads. Should be pretty pleasant fishing.

It’s always pleasant. Just have to go further north. My only complaint is all the tree hugger kayak tourists

Light rain in Roch but we’ve already had .62″. The map looks like this could be here for a while now too.

The river definitely changes more rapidly than ever before. More fields are tiled than ever, and the growing population hubs and development create rapid runoff. This all then compounds to increase the sedimentation issues here on the river.

It used to take days for rainfall to really reach the river here along Pool 4 and create noticeable changes. Now one line of thunderstorms in the summer upstream changes everything by the next morning.

Parts of Pool 4 are going to look very different a few decades from now.

I’d be surprised if Minnetonka had a no wake rule implemented. It was 15 inches down just from June 1 last season going into winter.

I do recall it being a no-wake all the way through June once though. I don’t remember what year that was. Maybe way back in 2014? We received about 14 inches of rain that month alone.

The Mississippi is roaring in Sartell. Not the highest I have seen it but its close. The Sauk is dropping and flooded out the usual suspects Antons and Lions Park. This rain will likely cause it to come back up a bit though.
