This is the unfortunate outcome in a lot of brick and mortar stores. Most are bleeding a slow, but inevitable death. 20 years from now I’m going to wish there were brick and mortar stores to bitch about.
This is sad but true. I don’t think it will take 20 years. The path to Death has all been the same. Smaller somewhat local sporting goods store ( Holiday Sports, Burger Brothers, Fleet Farm ) All doing really well and running a successful and profitable business. All being run by smart REAL outdoorsmen who do their own buying and ordering – Knowing what sells best in their area. Owners get approached by Major BIG box companies to sell. Owners decide its a good time to get rich and cash in and do so. New Big box companies come in and Take away buying and purchasing from local Managers and turn it over to some young fancy college graduate who doesn’t know the difference between a Musky baitcaster and a panfish ultralight and calls calls all Ammo Gun bullets. Oh by the way. Lets forget about all the low margin items that bring people into the store. and just focus on the high $ markup items like guns and clothing. A few years later and they are going out of business. Yes online retail has had a part in the death of retail stores. But in the case of sporting goods I think its a much smaller part that Poor ownership and management is.
