Tim a friend of mine has been on the local dam more often then not the last couple weeks waiting for the flatheads to start biting. People have been getting a few the last week mostly smaller ones under 15 pounds and like today the smaller ones were being caught on a big gob of nightcrawlers, just like the last few years. The pattern has been consistant with the smaller ones showing up first, then the big ones start biting.

Tim seen one yesterday that was just under 30 lbs. and he landed one today that was just over and both of them were caught on as many night crawlers as they could get one a no. 3 stainless and He said when they hit they hit it hard and went. Tims putting fish in the freezer so when they stopped the car on the bridge to load them his guess was 70 lbs for the total of all the fish he and a friend caught. Each year the smaller ones bite for about 2 too 3 weeks before the bigger ones start biting. I think the bite for the bigger ones is just starting and should be good for the next 2 too 3 weeks.

On a side note the channels are absolutely on a tear right now and have a friend whos fishing with another guy and on 10 dittypoles they got 36 nice channels in two days and not a lot of blood yet on their eggs and it should also go for another 3 weeks.

3 to 5 lbs on the small ones Brian, small here by the guys I fish with are 3 to 15 lbs. The bigger ones are above 15 lbs. In 3 hours of fishing Tim left the bridge early today because the bite was slow, maybe tonight, I might even go myself.

Thanks Primitive, I just got back from fishing on the dam and its slow. The water and current is good but they must have their bellies full, not even small ones. Did find a new place for bluegills and in about 15 minutes I got around 30, one after another and spent more time taking them off the hook then fishing for them, drop the ice fishing jig in and it was pull the fish off the hook. Perfect dittypole and trotline size and all cookie cutter at about 1 3/4″. Were going to run our dittypoles this weekend with them.
